Exploring the Titleist Pro V1 archive

When the original Titleist Pro V1 debuted in 2000, it incorporated three ground breaking advances: A large resilient core, multi-component construction, and a cast urethane elastomer cover.

Flashback to 16 years ago, at the Invensys Classic at Las Vegas (now the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open), 47 players switched to the new multi-component, solid technology Pro V1 the first week it was available, representing the single greatest pluralistic shift in equipment usage ever at a PGA TOUR event.

“The launch of Pro V1 was especially significant in that for the very first time the best performing golf ball for tour players was also the best performing golf ball for all golfers,”recalled Mary Lou Bohn, President, Titleist Golf Balls. “You no longer had to choose between distance over short-game control, or durability over soft feel. There were no trade-offs. Pro V1 delivered total performance.”

Today, Pro V1 and Pro V1x are the most played and best-selling golf ball models around the world. Two out of every three players across the worldwide professional tours tee up a Pro V1 or Pro V1x, and the percentages are even higher at major men’s and women’s global amateur events, the NCAA Championships and competitive boys’ and girls’ junior championships.

Pro V1 and Pro V1x have provided continued success to players across the globe thanks to the dedication from the Titleist Golf Ball R&D Team to innovate and make a ball without compromise, year after year.

If you follow Titleist on social media (Twitter, Facebook and Instagram), you will see another chapter in the Pro V1's history each day. We will be adding them here, so sit back and recall your memories with the Pro V1 and Pro V1x:
