Finally An Ace After 59 years of Golf

After 59 years of playing golf and coming so close to an ace several times, I finally got lucky. I had just put a new Titleist NXT Tour in play and teed off on the 165 yard third hole of the Parkland nine at River Ridge Golf Club in Sealy, TX. The ball coming off of my 5-iron started straight at the hole but started fading about 6 feet to the right. I was walking off of the tee box when one of my playing partners yelled out "go in the hole". I looked back at the hole and watched the ball roll the last 5 or 6 feet into the hole. The contour of the green had diverted the ball back to the left towards the hole. My playing partners were surprised that I wasn't all that excited. I told them that after playing golf for 59 years, I had given up on ever getting an ace and I was more shocked than anything. What was really exciting to me was when I shot my age (69) a few months earlier. That had been a goal of mine for a couple of years and I had been with one stroke of doing that a couple of times.
