This past Saturday, April 17, 2010, I was playing a par 3 course, Turkey Creek, in Jefferson City, Missouri. The weather had finally changed for the better so my girlfriend and I decided to head out for a game, first one of the year. After making some pretty good shots on the driving range we were ready to get started. Of course, those same great shots would not follow me on the greens! But, on hole number 5, after starting to feel the frustration, I set my Titleist NXT Tour on the ground and got ready to tee off. I used my 9-iron, the only club that I was having much luck with, and took my practice swing. Next, I lined up, took a couple of breaths, and let loose my swing. I knew instantly I had a great shot, but thought I was going to come up short. Standing and watching, I could feel my heart begin to race as I watched the ball drop within one foot of the cup, and then felt my heart almost explode as the ball rolled into the cup! After running in circles and screaming, I ran ahead to the tee box on hole #6, asking the couple playing in front of me if they would walk to the hole and witness my shot, before walking to the hole myself!
What makes this even better is that this was not my first hole in one! I only started playing around 2003, when my dad, after not having played for a number of years, got me and my brother into playing. On this same golf course on September 24, 2004 while playing with my dad, I hit a hole-in-one on hole #2, at 127 yards. I never thought I would ever be able to say that I hit a hole-in-one. To say that I've hit two....I'm still trying to get used that!
