Ciganda captures second LPGA Tour crown in Mexico

Titleist golf ball loyalist Carlota Ciganda (Pro V1) rallied to win the Lorena Ochoa Invitational for her second LPGA Tour title in four starts.

"I am very happy to be here and to get my second victory," Ciganda said after the win. "It's wonderful to play here in Mexico. I love the golf course, the people, it's an honor to be here. I've been playing really good all year long and to end this year with these two victories gives me a lot of confidence."

Ciganda closed with a 4-under-par 68 to post a 13-under-par 275 total, good for a two-shot win over five of her fellow Titleist golf ball loyalists – third-round leader Austin Ernst (Pro V1x), Angela Stanford (Pro V1), Jodi Ewart Shadoff (Pro V1x), Karine Icher (Pro V1x) and Sarah Jane Smith (Pro V1x). In fact, nine of the top 10 finishers trusted a Titleist golf ball for their success.

Ciganda played the four par-5 holes in 5-under-par on Sunday, making an eagle on No. 2 and birdies on 6, 11 and 17.

"Last year, I was close," said Ciganda, who finished runner-up at this event in 2015. "It was a shame not being able to win but it was still a good last day, so I had really good memories. Last week, I was back home just resting because I wanted to play here and to do well, so I am really happy and thrilled that I was able to win."

The 26-year-old from Spain won the LPGA KEB-Hana Bank Championship a month ago for her first career title and has five straight top-10 finishes.

TITLEIST BY THE NUMBERS

Titleist was the top golf ball choice at the event with 26 players in the limited-field of 35 trusting a Titleist Pro V1 or Pro V1x golf ball for their success, 13 times the nearest competitor with two.

The win was the 21st for Titleist golf ball loyalists on the 2016 LPGA Tour, more than five times the nearest competitor with four.
