After a typhoon made direct contact with the island nation of Chines Taipei on Tuesday, Titleist golf ball loyalist and Chinese Taipei native Wei-chih Lu (Pro V1x) captured an emotional victory at the Mercuries Taiwan Masters, closing with a 2-under-par 70 under difficult playing conditions.

Lu posted a 5-under-par 283 victory total on his home course, Taiwan Golf and Country Club.

The one-shot win was the fourth victory of Lu’s Asian Tour career and his third at this event (he also won in 2005 and 2011).

The win was especially gratifying for the 37-year-old Lu, who overcame brain surgery in 2012 to remove a non-malignant tumor.

"It means a lot to me to win this tournament,” said Lu after the win. “After the surgery, I thought I couldn't play golf anymore so to be a winner again is amazing. My wife, my father and my mother kept pushing me and kept motivating me to keep fighting. I'm here today because of them. The victory is for them as well.”
