It was an all-Titleist sudden-death playoff at the Dominion Charity Classic where Titleist golf ball loyalist Scott McCarron (Pro V1) topped Tom Byrum (Pro V1x) with a 10-foot birdie putt on the first extra hole.
The Dominion Charity Classic is the second leg of the three-tournament Schwab Cup Playoffs which culminates next week in Scottsdale, Arizona.
McCarron advanced to second on the Schwab Cup points list behind two-time defending champion and fellow Titleist golf ball loyalist Bernhard Langer (Pro V1), whom McCarron played with in the final round.
“My goal was to get in the top 5 and I did that,” said McCarron after the win. “Chasing Hall of Famer Bernhard Langer, he’s playing so well. I just hung in there all day long. I’m really proud of myself. It feels sweet.”
The win was the second of the season for McCarron who also captured the Principal Charity Classic in Iowa in June for his first PGA TOUR Champions victory.
McCarron and Byrum each shot 3-under-par 69 in regulation to finish at 13-under-par 203.
Titleist golf ball loyalist Kevin Sutherland (Pro V1x) shot a course-record 9-under-par 63, with seven birdies and an eagle, to finish in a tie for 3rd at 11-under 205.
