    Hi Mitch/Team Titleist Members;

I'm wondering if anyone has seen any information on the anticipated release date for the new golf balls?  I've asked my local pro shops/golf stores and they do not have any information except for the generic --"sometime in the Spring" response.

I checked the U.S. site for potential information and did not find any there either, except for the comment that it is anticipated that it will be released at the Orlando Golf Show in late January/February.

It would be great to get a sleeve or two to play with after having received the test sleeves.

On another note, Mitch, I am wondering if anyone at Team Titleist Canada can inform us as to the status or identity of the test balls that some of us received?   It would be very interesting to find out if the black numbered ones were Pro V1's and the red numbered sleeves were Pro V1X's,etc.

    Good point Douglas...

I was unsure of whether I got a sleeve of ProV1x or ProV1 to test. I am assuming that since my profile notes ProV1x as my standard ball that I received the ProV1x so that my results would be based on an apples to apples comparison. However - there were times in my testing where I actually thought that I may have received placebo balls as the difference was not perceptible on a few of my rounds. Unfortunately I only got about 8 or 9 rounds out of my three balls as I was a little off my game on a few of those days :)

It truly would be nice to know which I was testing so I would know which one to purchase when the time comes. However - Why not buy a box of each and truly verify which one is now my favorite ?

    Hi Darius,

Yes...I too wondered if maybe it was a placebo.

I normally play with a Pro V1 - I just preferred the softer feel of it, especially around the greens.  The Pro V1's reminded me of the older balata balls with their soft feel.

However, in the testing I thought I received what may have been a Pro V1X test ball.

It definitely felt "harder" off the tee and around the greens, but I simply could not argue with the results.  The ball stopped well on the greens, and had performance characteristics that I could not find fault with.

So, I went and bought a sleeve of Pro V1X balls 2 weeks ago and have been playing them for the last couple of weeks and have been pleasantly surprised by the results!

Regardless, I will be buying both Pro V1's and Pro V1X's in the next while ...when the new balls are released for sale.  I did buy a box of each last week as all our retailers, pro shops have discounted their existing stock of Pro V1/Pro V1X balls to make room for the new ones!

I am mainly curious about the testing to simply satisfy my curiosity and to see what they sent me, etc.

On another note Darius, how did you originally conclude that the Pro V1X's were the ball to play?  Did you test them as per Titleist's suggested fitting process or did you just play some rounds with them and base it on your own conclusions?

Doug - I am sure every one has their own way of testing and in the end, it is the individual players perception that ultimately counts the most. Like with everything else in golf - If you feel good about your game you will play better.

I did my fitting for my Irons, my Driver, and my Fairway wood all with ProV1x so I know my clubs were tuned in for me using that ball. However - all my fittings were done in warmer weather.

I actually played the ProV1 for the longest time until one day I got my hands on the ProV1x and found it went a little longer for me off the tee. After playing a number of different rounds over time, I actually play both now. I use the ProV1 in the spring and late fall when the weather is cooler as they feel softer in the cold weather for me. Once the weather warms up I switch to the ProV1x for the balance of the season. As such - I use the ProV1x for the majority of my play.

Both the ProV1x and the ProV1 work well for me around the greens and from 150 yds in and I don't notice a huge difference between them on those shots. It is the longer irons and the driver where I see that in the warmer weather the ProV1x is better for me. Less side spin and therefore helps me hit more fairways. Obviously my swing is a little more off with the longer clubs so every little bit of help I can get from the ball is welcome.

Could be that once the new balls come out I will find the ProV1x  will perform just as well in the colder weather as it does in the warmer weather and then I can stick to one ball all season long.

Looking forward to trying them out over more rounds to zero in on which works best for me :)

So when the member comes in the pro shop and asks what the difference between the new Pro V1 and the ones I just had imprinted @ Christmas. What do I tell them?

    Hi Todd,
In short, the 2015 Pro V1 and Pro V1x golf balls feature a new, patented thermoset urethane elastomer cover that delivers more short game spin and control, and softer feel – while maintaining their exceptional distance and flight characteristics, and best-in-class durability. The softer, reformulated cover system improves feel, sound and short game scoring control, providing golfers the confidence and performance to hit it closer to the hole.

I received the black numbered test balls and automatically assumed they were ProV1's - i played one of them for 45 holes in the fall and it seemed no different than the ProV1 that I usually play.  Loved it, loved the feel, the flight, the way it came off my putter and the way it reacted on the greens from approaches and from those little flops and bump and runs.  Whichever ball it was I'm sold (again!!).  That being said I'd like to know also if it was a 1 or a 1X so I can continue to play it.

    Thanks for the feedback Darius!

It was nice to hear your process and rationale as to how you arrived at your selection of golf balls.

On that note, when you were fitted with your clubs I take it that you received some feedback data such as clubhead speed, ball speed, smash factor, etc..., did you also factor your clubhead speed, etc.  into the golf ball selection criteria?

As I'm sure that you're aware, there has been a school of thought that most amateurs - recreational golfers should not be playing with Pro V1 or Pro V1x balls as these players do not generate the swing speed, smash factor to properly compress the ball, etc...

I'm wondering if this factored into your thought process?

For me, I have played now for the better part of 30 years and as a kid, grew up with wound golf balls in various compressions.  It seems very disingenuous to me that this argument is still being used when modern day golf balls are no longer of a wound construction.

Golf ball information that I have come across and supported in discussion with my local fitters here in Vancouver area have tended to fall on the side that it is simply a matter of finding the particular golf ball that best suits your particular game (characteristics, feel, distance, spin, etc.)

I too have been fitted with all of my clubs for the past decade and a bit, so my clubs have been "tuned" for me.

I really enjoy playing with the Pro V1's and have for the better part of the last 10 years.  More expensive, but I have always loved the feel and my perceived performance characteristics with the balls. I tried playing other brand balls, bstone, cally Speed Rated and swoosh Platinum ... in the end I always come back to Titleist.  Unless I hit an errant shot that massages the asphalt cart path, I find that the Titleist Pro V-series balls are very durable.

Would like to hear from any other Team Titleist members too as to their ball choices, etc.
