Going there in a couple of weeks and am most likely playing the entire length of the course and am looking for "local knowledge" from anyone who has played this or is a member. I'm a 2 handicap and have been playing scratch for the last couple of months, but after reviewing the website of this venue, I must admit that I'm a bit intimidated, especially after reading the individual hole descriptions and suggested play. Normally, I can see what the architect wants one to do after scouring the design of the hole when standing on the tee, but again, this Stanley Thompson design (let alone the sloping) has me a little perplexed.

    Darius, HELP!!

    Wow - St. George's - I envy you my friend !!!
Not exactly sure why you would think I could help. I am humbled that someone with a 2 handicap that has been shooting scratch for the last couple of months would even think that I could be of assistance, but although I have been to many many courses I have never had the pleasure of playing at St. Georges.
I can only hope that you have the good fortune of playing with a local member that has been there for a number of years so that he/she can impart some beneficial local knowledge while you are on the track.

Above all else - make sure you enjoy the experience !!!!

Thanks for the getting back to me Darius and answering my query. I was just hoping that "possibly",in your travels, you may have played this prestigious venue and could give a fellow TT'er some "inside info", as bad as that sounds, lol! Hopefully they have a Pocket Caddie book to help do the math.

    Hi FJL,

I am lucky enough to have St George's as a client and I have had the privilege of being invited out to play the track a bunch of times.

You are going to notice that the course is immaculate. Not to belittle the course in anyway, but don't be intimidated. The only thing you will need to worry about is where you put yourself on the green. As with any course, certain flags you can attack and others you need to stay away from. If you are playing with a member they will be able to advise you on that day's pin placements and which to go after.

The greens are fast but they roll very true and you will enjoy putting on them. Make sure to get there early as well so you can take advantage of the Men's locker room. It underwent a multi-million dollar reno a couple of years ago and it is absolutely stunning inside.

    Enjoy,

    Alex

An absolutely beautiful day last Monday with perfect temps... couldn't ask for better, but a very tough layout, small landing areas from the tee to the fairway and long par 4's requiring the long irons. My short game came in handy on a few holes to get up and down for the par and those undulating greens made you really think. Managed to pull off the win with a team score of 7 under and I was extremely drained both mentally and physically afterward as it demanded your attention on every shot. I rested all day Tuesday, had to..... but man, what a track!
