Everyone has their own way of marking their Titleist ball so they can identify it when it ends up in an unplanned location. My question for our TT members is regarding the putting line. A number of my playing partners mark their ball with a line so they can line up their putt. Some use the nice arrows that are pre-printed on the Titleist brand.

I am curious if many of you either mark their ball with a line or actually use the alignment marks to assist you in your putting. I personally have tried, but for some reason I find it difficult to line up with that aid. For me, it always seems like it is off line from where my eyes see the putt should go. Do you use it ? Do you find it helps ? Is there a trick to it, or is it something that simply needs a lot of practice to get comfortable with it ?

I do not. My reason may be different than others. I just don't like making something personal then watch it fly off in to the bush never to be seen again.

i do use a tool to put a putting line on my ball. I find it helps tremendously some days and then others it doesn't - haha!

but in all honesty, i like a black sharpie line as i'm lining up the putt and then standing over it

I do not like using a putting line on my ball, nor do I use the alignment marks on the golf ball for putting.

I have purposefully avoided it - my thoughts on it is that it is way too easy to have the actual intended putting line mis-aligned with the ball's alignment marks. This is especially true the further away you get from the hole.

In addition, when I tried it during a round, I have always found myself focusing too much on the putting line (using the alignment marks) and not thinking enough about the pace of the putt and the stroke needed to get the ball to the hole.

For me, it is all about getting into the mental frame of mind when I stand over a putt, trusting that I read the line correctly and to then focus on putting a proper stroke on the ball to get it to the hole.

I do occasionally use the putting line when I am practicing - it does provide good feedback when I am trying to make sure that I have put a good stroke on the ball; the line does not waver or "wobble"!

I currently don't use one. I have tried it in the past but find that the ProV1 line is enough to get me started in the right direction. When I had black line on it i always seemed to push my putts, have no idea why.

I used to use a line. I would mark a red line over the one that is already on the ball. I used this for years until I was having trouble sinking putts the last few years. I have now switched to putting with no markings, I find this makes me focus on my intended target as opposed to hitting the putt according to where I have aligned my mark.

    To each their own.

I don't use one either, just prefer the markings that are on the Prov V1. Other than that I mark my ball with an orange dot next to the number although my daughter has just donated her pink sharpie to me and I'm under pressure to use that!!!

I just use the pro v1 line.
  9. I don't use a line. I line up the Titleist wording on my golf ball, and hit it. I putt by feel, I don't need a line.

I do mark my ball to help me identify it on the course but do not add a line or use the pre-printed line when playing. I tried to use a line but for some reason or other could never get the ball to "sit" on the line I so carefully set up - it would always flop just enough to throw it off alignment. I have found the line to be useful when practicing my putting as it can help me see how the ball is rolling after the stroke - an indicator of putter face angle at impact.
  11. I do not use one. I don't like extra worries when lining up my put. I'd rather worry about my stroke then lining up with a mark on my ball......but maybe that's why I suck lol

In the past I used to sharpie a line on the ball now I just use the one on the ball with the arrows and on those days when that's not working I rotate the ball where I font see nothing but dimples lol that's most of time

I use the alignment line on Titleist balls for all putts and for tee shots as well. I started this practice years ago when the Pro V1 had a much more pronounced parting line on it. The parting line is much less pronounced now but I still use it when I putt or tee it up.
  14. I don't. Just another thing that slows the game down.

  15. Daruis I use the line on the ball to show me consistency of roll. If the line is rolling end over end it is instant feedback that your strike is putting the proper roll/contact on the ball. Proper roll will lead to more consistency in putting distance and break. Happy putting
  16. I mark with two dots.High and low on each side of titleist...then using a tip from Greg Norman, off of one of his videos(going back a few years but I still do this)...I turn the ball where there is no writing or dots at all. That way looking down there is no second guessing of alignment.

Good topic Darius! I don't use a putting or alignment line. Personally I place the ball with the line on the green so when I stand over the ball to putt there are no marks visible, just the ball.

Darius, I mark with a red dot over the Titleist logo and use the Titleist Prov1 alignment arrows as is.
I myself never use any other kind of ball as I cant look down to put it without that line lol!
    Cheers my friend,

I do mark a line on my ball. I find it helps me a lot with putting and whether I struck it well. As Hughe G. said I also use it off the tee just to get me squared up.
