The end of winter is in sight!  Mother nature may have more in store for us as we enter into March, but I think we can all likely see the light at the end of the tunnel by now.

As Spring gets closer and closer, how do you prep for the start of the golf season?
Do you hit balls at an indoor/covered/heated driving range?
When do you bring your clubs out of storage?
How about a complete empty, cleaning and audit of your golf bag and equipment?

I have my sticks about 15 feet away from me in my office.  I'll be coming in bright and early at some point next week to empty it out from all of last years treasures (ball markers, protein bar wrappers etc) and shift my sticks over to a new bag.  I'll also be looking to get some friends together for a round of sim golf in the coming weeks as well.

What are your plans to wear off that winter rust?

Good topic Mitch. I have been working on my swing all winter at an indoor winter golf school and throw in the odd outing to a sim. Cleaning out the bag is rarely a problem but this year it may need a good scrubbing on the outside to get rid of some scuffs and dirt.

Indoor driving range for a month, gets the flexibility back and grooves the swing, distance means nothing at this point. Myrtle Beach for a week as well.

With the record temperatures yesterday here in Central Ontario, we can only hope spring will be early. Time to start getting the gear ready; shoes cleaned, towels washed, etc. Also time to roll off the couch and get the stretching going.....
I will be getting to the indoor range a couple of times next week. I have a family trip to Florida for March break coming up and there is a course right across the street. Perhaps I can sneek over early in the morning a couple of days!!

    Hey Mitch...
Like you, I keep my bag out for the whole winter. Partly because I have my putting mat down in the basement, and partly because I am a golfer, and therefore like being frustrated :)
I do like to prep a little before the course opens. In March I will be heading to an indoor driving range here in Barrie to get in some full swings. I find that it helps tune up the specific muscle groups that are key in golfing, but have nothing to do with shovelling or blowing snow. Normally I would find an outdoor range open in April to prep for our course opening in May. This year I am hoping to slip down to Florida for and get in a few April rounds before my course opens up here in Ontario. To me, the best way to prepare for the game is to actually get out and do it. Still keeping my eye on the Canadian dollar in hopes that a new 917 driver can find it's way into my bag for this season. The bag is already full of new balls and tees.
    Come on spring !!!!

I've upgraded to a set of 716 CB's, SM6 50, 54,58, 917 D3, 917 F3 and 816 H2. Got all of them re-gripped with golf pride mcc4. To practice with new clubs, I have been going to an indoor golf training spot. It's a nice set up. The practice has certainly helped. So once the snow melts and the courses open I will be ready for the season.

I start my prep by walking a lot, and light workouts with weights. I will also hit the local indoor dome range a few times just to get swinging the club. My clubs will come out of storage soon and like you Mitch, I will be cleaning out my bag so it's ready for opening day. We could see an early start to the season here in Ontario if the weather is good to us, but we've been tricked by some warm February weather in the past!! Fingers crossed!!

I work in a golf store in the U.K. And it's on a golf course so always leave my sm6 wedges at work and a bag of balls and practice short game for 30/40 mins a day. Love my wedges and can't wait to get them into play again.

Hey Mitch. Did a round of sim last month. Cleaned bag then. Found lots of broken tees and loose change. Clubs been out since Christmas when the first snow melted here in SW Ontario. Wish I had a new bag!! prob buy a putter this year instead. Home course is trying to open sometime in march. Can't wait..... was open March 19th last year.

    Great question Mitch!

I just spent the morning doing my "audit". I am a bit of a golf hoarder so I usually need a mid-season audit as well haha!

I think I had enough gloves in there for every day of the week, retired a few of those and also demoted a few of my Pro V1's to the practice/shag bag.

I hope I get an invite to that sim golf outing!

This week I started going to a new place here in Calgary called Grand Slam Golf: 6 Simulators, big putting area and a sand bunker, I'll try and play a round a week now. As well they have a robo swing simulator to put you on the right path.

When it gets warmer in the garage I will change my grips.

Have been hard at work in the gym and started hitting balls in the trackman simulator at our golf course and all of a sudden.............

Played 18 at Tarandowah golf course Feb. 23rd!!!!!! :)

Was awesome. Just enough to tie me over till we leave for 10 rounds in Myrtle beach late March to shake the rust off!

    Cheers Team.

Putting has been practiced in the office all winter. Clubs have been re-griped and clean and I have started to accelerated the work out routine. Over the next couple of week the shoes will get cleaned/re-spiked, the bag gets a clean out/reorg. Lastly the trips to the indoor range will get more frequent. Opening day can't come soon enough.
  14. Sure feels close Mitch. I have had an awesome prep for the 2017 season. I just purchaed the 917 F3 and 2017 Mid Staff Bag. Can't wait to put them in play. My season will start in FLA in the next few weeks. My dad turned 70 and a group of us are heading down to St Augustine for 11 rounds in 7 days. Should be a nice prep to say the least.

I do my best to not gather any rust during the winter. Typically play golf on the sim 1-2 days a week. This year I started to hit balls on the launch monitor one day a week as well. I've been trying to optimize launch and spin with the driver. Hitting balls on the launch monitor indoors has also given me the opportunity to evaluate the new ProV1 and ProV1x. I like the numbers I'm getting with the 'V' and will probably switch to it this year.

Took some time off hitting balls indoors and golf in general. Now trying some drills at an indoor driving range to flatten my swing and improve my over the top driver action. Fine tuning the game.

I was away in December and played 5 rounds, so not too rusty right now. Have gone to indoor simulators a couple of times in Jan and was lucky enough to hit outdoors in Feb as well.
  18. I hit at an indoor warm range during the winter months and always play Rory PGA golf on PS4!!!! Keeps my game sharp!
  19. I don't usually do much for prep. There is really nothing golf related close to where we live so it's mostly a cold start to the season for me. The odd time, over the winter, we'll make the drive to the sim in Guelph to play with friends but that's just for a fun night out. This year though, I do get to start my season in Mexico so hopefully I hit the ground running when I get back.

I hit balls on a daily basis on my Skytrak simulator in my house.
I also go hit balls in a local dome where I see my flight for 100 yards and confirm on flight scope. They are opening a golf course near Montreal this Friday but weather will be cold for the next couple of week.
