Many of you will recall some of my previous posts regarding my issue with the dreaded Hosel Rockets... I tried a number of things and got tips and suggestions from a variety of players that I trust as I tried to find a way to get beyond my issues. The problem just got worse and worse until I ultimately hit rock bottom. I play to an 8 handicap and normally shoot between 75 and 85 depending on the course and weather conditions. On Friday 13th I was out with my regular group and fired off a 73 (on the front nine) and things got moderately better on the back to finish the round with a smooth 130 !!! That night I smartened up and reached out for professional help ! I managed to book a session with Henry Brunton who is one of Canada's top teachers and happens to have a teaching facility at Eagles Nest next to the Titleist National Fitting Centre. I a matter of 5 minutes with me, he identified my problem and gave me a drill to work on which was specific to my issue. He told me to work on that drill and go to the range and work on it and nothing else until I could hit the ball again. After over 23 hours on the range during the course of the following 6 days I had things back on track. My game is now back and dare I say, even better than before this issue arose. Now I am truly enjoying the benefits of my new AP3's and focussing on where to hit the ball instead of wondering where it might go. I cannot stress it enough that if anyone has an issue in their swing that they are trying to fix, don't waste time trying to fix it on your own. Get professional help !!! Until I saw Mr. Brunton, I tried fix after fix after fix until it finally got to the point where all the fixes combined together and completely left me baffle-gaffed. It took a professional and a lot of hard work to undo all of that tweaking. My advice is that if you are finding your swing is going astray, save yourself a lot of time and aggravation and do it right the first time :) We go to experts like Mitch to get fit for the right clubs and shafts... It only makes sense to go to a professional to ensure we get the best out of those fantastic clubs.

    Lethbridge,

That is why I hate Friday the 13th. ( Just a little triskaidekaphobic, never worked on a Friday the 13th) It is always best to get professional help. Glad it worked out.

It seems it's always hard to seek out professional help, I think because you/I think the fix is just one tweak away. There is a reason why pro's have coaches, golf isn't an easy game and it is easier for a educated set of eyes to fix the problem. That said I think I will go to work and reach out for help too.

Todd - If my story helps nudge you into getting the right assistance and it fixes your game then I am glad that some good came out of my issue :)

As an added note - I played in our Club Championship this weekend only 4 weeks after my crash. I decided to set a goal of beating my scores from last year by 5 strokes each day. It took a lot of focus and hard work, but I achieved my ultimate goal and actually exceeded it. I ended up beating my score on Saturday by exactly 5 strokes and exceeded my goal on Sunday by reducing my score by 9 :)

The recovery is still a work in progress, but even with that I am playing better than ever with the new improved swing !!!!

Like always...you can't fix a problem if you don't know what the problem is. Like anything else a professional is the best choice to fix a problem.
