  1. I got an old set of irons that I need to cut down for a 10-11 year old boy of average height for his age and he is not here with me to measure him with a club. Is there any websites to go to that have a general list I can go off of to get this little man started playing golf? Any help would be great. Thanks and God Bless...

I've reshafted irons for my son perhaps 10 times from age 6 to his current 13 and getting the length right is the most time consuming and difficult part of the exercise. My strategy is always to get the wedge right and the longest iron right and then space the others between them. The spacings will be quite a bit less than the adult spacings. They may only be 1/4" apart as you carefully adjust them evenly. The lob, sand and gap may be almost exactly the same length, just different lofts. If you don't care about the shafts in there now, cut it down a little at a time and have him set up with it until you get it just right. Then make it about 1/2" longer. He can choke up 1/2" without a problem and this gives him some room to grow. Hopefully he had a growth spurt recently. If not, then putting a lot of work into a set of shafts may inspire one. Don't ask me how I know. I put my son into his first set of adult irons at 9 and he was too young. Even with lightweight graphite shafts the clubs were too heavy for him. I expected his coach to support me in telling him the were too heavy for him but coach misunderstood my signal and supported him. LOL. So that was the only year he missed junior world. Even at 10 and 11, he could have still used a lighter club. You boy may be bigger than mine. When his driver swing speed is 85 or so, he's ready for adult weight irons. Before that he would be better off in lighter iron heads. For shafts I highly recommend a set of graphite shafts for light weight in A (L) flex. When you cut down a shaft it gets stiffer so an L flex shaft will become an R flex. Get a good lightweight shaft. There are lots of good ones. My son played Prolaunch Blues in 2 junior worlds but there are lots of other choices. For an undersized grip a ladies grip will be perfect. Best of luck and God Bless back at you. ---Jerry
  3. Jerry seems to have hit the nail on the head! Good Luck!

  4. Thanks Jerry for the information. It will come in very useful as he has a lot of growing to do. If you don't mind me asking, how did your son do at world's?
