I recently made the transition to all titleist clubs 913d3 driver 913 fairway and hybrids and 714 ap1 irons. My driver speed has dropped to 95 mph from 105 a few years ago. My question is with all the hype brand X is pitching on loft. Would I someone with a slower swing speed benefit from lofting up on my driver I swing a 10.5 std setting of A1.

    Hi Dwayne,

    Thank you for the question.

When it comes to finding the right loft for your driver, it really comes down to what combination is going to optimize your ball speed. You want to make sure your driver gives you the best combination of speed, ideal launch and ideal spin. It doesn't matter if the loft is an 8.5 or 12.5.

When I fit individuals with slower ball speeds, I would fit them into everything from an 8.5 to a 12.5 driver. Certain individuals who have slower ball speeds may still be steep on the golf ball and produce too much spin, requiring lower lofts.

As long as your current 10.5 gives you the flight you like to see, optimal distance and control, you should be good.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

    Take care,

    Bubba

Course conditions are also a factor.  Rock hard fairways will roll forever and you can often gain yards with a lower loft.  Wet or irrigated fairways and you're usually better off getting all the carry you can.  Simply keeping an accurate (and honest) record of your driving length and accuracy can really help you see patterns in your clubs.
