Project X 6.0 vs C-Taper S 120?

    Hey TT Community,

    First and foremost, Happy New Year!

    I am planning a few upgrades slated for the new year (irons and driver). Today I play the 714 AP2 w/ KBS C-Taper S 120 shafts. I was fitted for them back when the 714’s came out and have loved them ever since. I was fitted recently in the T-100s with Project X 6.0 Rifle shafts and thought they hit quite well (kinda hard to get a full picture with a half bucket of balls though). All in all they felt rather similar to the C-Taper. The fitter at the time said that there were sourcing issues with KBS and given Project X being a standard option, it would be a better fit. I seem to recall the fitter not having C-Tapers that could mount up to the T-100s so I couldn’t really compare.

    Having been fitted in both (granted the C-Taper was a number of years ago), and all things being equal, is the C-Taper worth the extra $33 upgrade per iron? Aesthetically I prefer the look of the brushed steel C-Taper over the chrome Project X shaft. The cost for C-Taper doesn’t really bother me either, I just don’t want to get buyers remorse if I go the Project X route.

    Has anyone made the same switch before and what were your thoughts?

    I went from CTaper S+ (125g) to the X6.0's following a fit many moons ago and found the transition easy. Not nearly as much of a profile difference as say an S300 vs X6.0.

    I've been playing Project X Rifle shafts ever since. I've bounced around between the 6.5 and 6.0 flex over the years, even a brief stint with the LZ6.0's.

    All in all, I always find myself coming back to the Rifle 6.0 shaft. Superior stability throughout the swing, with enough feel on less than full swings.

    Although I wouldn't change shafts just to get something sooner, I would trust your fitter not steering you wrong. You can always pick up a set of KBS shafts down the line if you wanted to swap them out. I see shaft pulls often in my area ranging from $100-$250 a set (7 shafts). Nothing to say you are stuck with the Rifle shafts forever.
