You can guess empirically what to add. But there are fans of hybrids, fairways, and utility/driving irons. Your swing is unique and so is the distance gaps you need to fill. Players with a higher ball flight would favor the utility. Those losing height - and distance control with rollout will prefer the higher launching hybrid.
Find a fitter for clubs that fill your gaps.

Have this same dilemma Tim. I did a fitting with Nick from Titleist today at Gold Creek, and I would never have thought to try a 4i loft in a hybrid but, the club was amazing. I also tried the u.505 but the flight of the TSR3 hybrid was in a much better “window” for me.

I need to do this for my 3-iron club. Thinking of the utility but at the 230ish yrd distance, easier to hit seems like the no brainer. Looking forward to getting fit for that gap.

Replaced my 5 Iron with a 26 degree fairway wood. Never found a hybrid that I really liked.

for some players, the hybrid is a good club to use from rough, etc. as the added mass of the head will get through the grass easier.

that being said, as noted above the best avenue is to talk with a fitter, look at your data and determine what the best fit might be. in your example, it seems like a 1* difference with your 5i. with the hybrid, there might be a longer shaft and therefore possibly more distance.
