  1. Good Evening, I am wondering what you do with the defect golf balls that haven't gone through the dimpling process? My son is trying to do a science fair project to compare the speed and distance of dimpled golf balls, to ones that aren't dimpled....the only issue is that he didn't realize when he started that he was going to have so much trouble finding them. Any assistance you have for me would be great. Thank you! Carolynn

Good question and project. Aerodynamics is the name of the game. You might start by doing a patent search on the USPO web site. Read through the golf ball patents and you will see many options and dimple paterns. Some of the most efficient designs are outlawed by the USGA and the R&A. Probably because the patent holder would be a rich man and the golf ball companies wouldn't like it. Not sure if any golf ball companies would be willing to stop the production line for smooth golf balls. Best of Luck, sp-

Try a driving range, they will have balls that no longer have dimples.

Any golf courses nearby with a links style setup that has cut the tall rough for the winter?  Bound to find some balls sitting out in the weather for the last 10-24 months there that will at least have the finish worn off, with rounding  dimples.  I have/had a bucket of balls apparently accumulated in the last century, may as late as 2001.  Found them in the garage last summer.  No smooth ones, but there are differences in designs.
