I know there are many varying discussions about this, but I'd like to ask the question in a different way. I am an 8 handicap but with a redeeming factor of being a very straight driver of the ball. I've been golfing for the past 45 years and I understand the Pro V series is one of the best balls available...if not THE best.
But that said, I have a driver swing speed of only 95 MPH, a slightly upright swing, and I create WAY too much ball spin with my driver. Given these parameters, recently on an uncrowded day I hit five Pro V1x balls and five NXT Tour balls off a Par 5 tee to see if I could determine a difference. I obviously realize that unless I'm Iron Byron, each of those ten swings were slightly different.
But luckily, all ten were at least in the (wide) fairway and four of the five NXT Tour balls went about 3-5 yards farther than the Pro V1x balls. But if I call Titleist (and I have) to ask if there is any difference in distance between the two balls given my swing parameters, I am told there is not. They tout the only differences being the construction characteristics and materials used in the balls and that basically all their balls go the same distance.
I'm just not buying it...I think the NXT Tour will, with my swing speed, go a little further than the Pro V1x, and additionally save me about $15/dozen. And since I like to play with a new ball on each nine, this becomes a factor. I'd appreciate any thoughts.
