It is starting to cool off. Who's changing balls for colder weather?

I'm a Pro V1 X guy.  I buy my personalized Pro V's every spring from my Pro, and I'm starting to run out.  This is the time of year where the leaves are falling, wind is blowing, and sometimes the ball just doesn't travel as far as it did a month or so ago.  In the winter I have played the NXT Tour, but I still long for the warmer days where I can break out a sleeve of Pro V's.  Does anyone play the same ball year round in the colder weather, if not what do you change too?

I personally use the pro v1's in the warmer weather. In the winter I have been using the DT solo's but will try the NXT this year.

I'm thinking of trying the new TruSoft ball for a 'winter' ball.  Haven't seen them at retail yet, but hope to be able to find them in Optic Yellow.

I am really hoping the Trusoft has the soft feel I am looking for.  I hate playing those hard balls all winter.

I bought a dozen DT trusoft in yellow and have played them in the very cold mornings here in NY.... very LONG ball... spin is way less than a Pro V1 / V1X but I was hitting irons a good 1/2 to 1 club longer... driver was a teensy longer

I have started using a warmer at home before I go to the course with my Pro V1's..... distance problem solved.

When it gets really cold I will juice the yellow Tru Softs and just use them.... I really only use them now because at sunrise it is most difficult finding white balls ob our very tight, very woody course... even just off a fairway in leaves it is sometimes impossible to see the white balls

I do the same thing. Switch from Pro V1x to NXT Tour or DT Solo

The DT Solo doesn't feel too hard?  I've never played them before, I am just curious about the feel.

I play the Velocity ball in the colder months. For me I get more length on my drives with them than I would a Pro V like you said before.

I'm in my 70's, found a Titleist ball as a youngster playing a muni course. Loved it and have been playing one since. That was a balata ball. The ball has evolved and I currently play the prov1. The point is they have made the best ball for a long time. Sure My swing speed is in the 80's today, but where it counts is 120 yds in for me. It does everything you need. I still amaze people I play with when I stop the ball within feet of where I aim.( myself included).I moved off the back tees 2 yrs ago to the white tees so distance off the tee isn't a factor. Still shot in the 70's and low 80's and we putt everything out. Find the Titleist ball that suits you and use it. I play the prov1 in all conditions.

I normally play Prov1s the year round.  They consistently perform for me.  In the spring and summer I tee the ball a little higher to obtain maximum distance.  In the cooler months I tee it lower and get a little more top spin.  I have played the new  DT TruSoft a couple of rounds recently and they are a very good ball.  Will probably give them a shot when it gets cold and need a low compresssion harder ball.  The ball does have a great feel and spins nicely on the greens.  Rolls nicely on slower greens.

I often opt for the NXT Tours in the colder months, but if I have Pro V1xs on hand I use them as normal.  I just have to get used to the extra run out on the greens year each with the NXTs.

Changing balls seems foolish to me.  Call me crazy, but I believe the ball is the most important piece of equipment in the game.  Switching the ball is going to change the dynamics on every shot.

When the weather turns, I wouldn't switch balls.  If anything, just move up a set of tees to offset any distance loss.  (or learn to love your long irons) That way you'll still get that buttery consistent feel around the greens.

There's nothing wrong with an NXT or a DT Solo, but why switch balls?

I have a small correction.  The  ball I found was  a Titleist  but was not a "balata". I meant to say it was a wound ball.. Balata wasn't developed until the 80's. I found that ball in the 50's

Totally agree with you, I don't think I personally can be consistent using different balls all the time, find a ball you like and stick with it!

I love the ProV1, but I played around a little with some Velocity balls a few weeks ago after receiving some branded Titleist Velocity from my local insurance agent. I might use that this winter, but I like the idea above about using the Hi-Vis balls this winter.

I've switched to NXT Tours from Prov1x's - not only softer (and seemingly longer) but I don't feel so bad when you get those mystery disappearing balls that hide in the leaves. Literally hit it the middle of the fairway last night and voila its gone!

HAHA,,,IT'S 92 HERE TODAY. I CHANGE FROM A PROV1X TO A PROV1 WHEN IT GETS IN THE 50S OR BELOW. I REALLY AM NOT GOOD ENOUGH TO KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BUT THE X FEELS A LITTLE HARDER IN COLD WEATHER(TO ME),,LOL,LOL.

Well, living up here in Canada, I find that I will swap out my Pro V1/Pro V1x's for a different ball to play in the winter months. Our temperatures drop down in the single digits (Celsius) in the 40's and 30's(Fahrenheit). So this means that balls such as the Pro V1's tend to feel and play much "harder" than they do in the spring/summer months.

So, I am hoping that these new Titleist TruSoft balls have a nice soft feel -- even in the cooler/colder weather. I've tried the NXT Tour and I must confess that I really did not like the feel of the balls off of my clubs -- they just feel so much harder and I can't get used to that feel.

Previous winters (not really I live in Floriduh) I have kept 1 or 2 extra ProV's in my pocket and rotate them out to keep them warm. But the last few rounds I have been hitting the new Trusoft and this might be my new ball period. I really like it.

I'm looking towards the Dt TruSoft as my winter ball. Played it a couple times in the summer and it has a really nice feel.

Weather doesn't change much here (Hawaii) so I use the same equipment year round.

I also usually switch around this time of year to the NXT Tour.  It usually takes a round or 2 to adjust my distances in the cold but then I'm good until spring.

I switched the other day to the DT Truesoft ball that replaces the DT solo.  Temps were high 40's and into the mid 50's.  A member of foursome commented that my drives seemed further and straighter than usual.  And best of all I spun a shot out of a greenside bunker.  Used truesoft today with temps in 60's and really liked it.  Have been playing ProV1X this season till cooler weather came in.  And they come in yellow which seems to standout this time of year.  I may have to pick up a dozen of the white ones.

I am in agreement with those that refuse to change the ball due to change in weather when they play. Quoting a TT member.. "seems foolish.." and I agree.  The conditions will always change on any given day and you need to keep things in your bag and game as consistent as possible.  You can't be a fair weather Pro V or ball player.  If you know how the type of ball you play reacts on certain playing conditions whether windy or not and soft or hard then you shouldn't change this constant.  You should play the shot that the conditions lends itself.  Technically, would you carry 14 different drivers?  Do you play preferred lies year round? Play one ball, play your game and don't let the conditions play you.

I played the ProV1 during the summer. In the early spring and fall where it's easy to lose a ball just off the fairway with all the leaves I've played the NXT but just tried the DT TruSoft and I've been loving the TruSoft so those will be my go to spring/fall golf balls.

For visibility, I (would) prefer an amber ball, especially this time of year. I recently played 2 rounds in the high 40's, and the Pro-V1x still out performed both "test" samples of yellow non-Titleist balls in distance and around the greens. One is definitely marketed as a soft urethane ball. I see no reason to switch balls based solely on temperature. I'm already convinced that even at my driver speed of 87-90, a Pro-V1x performs better at 85 degrees and even if it lost distance at 40 degrees, so would any ball. Of course, DT Solo has an advantage ($$$) if the leaves are too deep on course and the loss rate is high as a result.
