Wow, i hate to say it, but i got a round in today with the Test ball from last fall and filled out my survey. I wanted to make sure that I was playing my best to enable a fair evaluation of the TEST ball
I golf in Yellowknife. One of 3 eighteen hole sand golf courses in the world.
Sand fairways, artificial turf for tee boxes and greens
You carry a hitting matt with you for each shot, other than putting and your tee shot. You can use this matt anywhere on the course.
You can imagine that the sand does not provide much, if any, carry
Enough of Yellowknife, let's get to the ball
As a high handicapper (19 factor - 22 at my home course), i'm happy to get a ball that adds to predictability as my swing doesn't ;)
Off the tee it was pretty spectacular. Drive was as long and longer on some holes. Chipping within 30 yds was on point, leaving many 'gimme' type putts.
even better, the sand and terrain is hard on golf balls here, this TEST ball was the only ball I played for 18 holes and it can be played for another round, which with PROv1s isn't always the case
And in the end? The first four holes were junk. Front nine was a 48.
But the back 9? 6 pars and three bogeys for my best ever 9 - 39. This contributed to my best ever eighteen at 87.
Maybe the TEST added to my confidence, maybe it was my time to beat the others in my foursome. But it was awesome!
Added to this, in my 3 years golfing in Yellowknife, I have never seen a raven steal a ball in my group. I have seen a few flying with them, but that was it. My best mate had his TEST ball stolen by a raven, who flew away with it, unrecovered. Luckily, local rule allows a free drop/no penalty.
Judging from other reports on balls, this was the new NXT Tour S ball. Going to buy a dozen from the pro shop when i head out on Tuesday!
