Jim, when you say "Red Soft" i am guessing you mean the DT TruSoft in the red box? I think you will find that the Tour Soft in the blue box will feel very close to the NXT you have previously played. Since those are priced the same as the NXT's were, i dont think it was a "ploy" to raise prices. I think it was a desire to give us a better ball. You can still order up a ton of the old NXT's on golfballs.com or get a sleeve of the Tour Soft and give them a try. Sorry you are not happy with industry progression but i'm glad they dont still make that gutta percha golf ball i used to play with.

The (red box) DT Trusoft and the (blue) Tour Soft are entirely different animals. The NXT Tour/Tours were replaced by the Tour Soft. You may find the Velocity a better choice for distance and less spin. And less expensive than the blue box.

Did you try any online distributors? Or even ebay?

If you liked the NXT you'll like the Tour Soft. Basically the same ball with more improvements. but it's nothing like the DT TruSoft except for it's another Titleist gold ball. I would place the Toursoft similar to the NXT S model with a better engine IMO.

Anyone who has left over 2017 stock is probably discounting them significantly to make way for the 2018 Tour Soft. I know my club, Ferncroft CC in MA, is doing so with the NXT Tour/Tour S as well as 2017 Velocity. If you really like the ball, search a bit and save some $$$!

Here is a textbook explanation that might be of assistance. The Tour Soft is an improvement over the NXT ball.

TOUR SOFT - With a new cover material, a larger-than-ever core and a fundamental change in the manufacturing process, Tour Soft represents Titleist’s answer to a price category that increasingly includes softer-feeling multilayer urethane covered balls aimed at the average golfer.

But Tour Soft takes a different approach. It looks to go after that golfer with a large-core, two-piece design and new kind of ionomer cover. The aim is to produce more distance off the driver than comparable urethane-cover models, while still producing comparable spin on full wedge shots.

The distance on the Tour Soft is fueled by the largest core on a Titleist ball ever. At 1.60 inches, it surpasses the core on the 2016 NXT Tour S (1.585). Of course, a core that size also results in a very thin cover design, and Titleist says Tour Soft features a cover as thin as many typical urethane-covered balls. The Tour Soft uses a unique combination of four polymers and ionomers to produce the thin cover uniformly over the large core.

“We’d been able to make it in R&D for a few years,” Fish said, noting that making it in mass quantities as a full-fledged product . “Molding any kind of material around a larger core only adds complexity. There’s just less margin for error.”

The new construction also necessitates a new dimple pattern. The 342-dimple cuboctahedron pattern is designed to yield a penetrating trajectory.

Jim, I have to echo John B: I stopped-by my local Golf Galaxy at lunch today and saw a display of NXT's right out front. So they're still out there for purchase, certainly online, if that's the ball you want. Good luck!

Caught by surprise I guess. The local store didn't have any but the same store had them online, as you say at a "discount". I stocked up for the transition. Due today.
So I guess they're history after the stock runs out. I use the tour not the tour S.
Reading that textbook, now I'm worried I'll not like the thin cover or increased spin. I'm no pro with perfect impact. I have a tendency to cut soft balls and can't tolerate too much spin with the long shafts.
They only had one box of the NXT that time I bought the red, DT soft, to try. One of my worst rounds ever, playing that ball, seeing if could save a few bucks. One box lasted two rounds.

Look around and stock up if you're not willing to change. Although I play the V1, I picked up a box of NXT Tours at Walmart for $8. I really couldn't pass that up!
With that said, Titleist seems committed to continually improving their product. The NXTs were popular balls, you don't mess with success unless you're confident about their replacement. Give the Tour Soft a try.

Yeah so I did not know this was happening either. I actually tried stopping by my golf galaxy and it closed 2 months ago. I normally play the NXT Tour 2, so I guess I will try to buy some of the new ones. I normally play used balls to keep cost down, so hopefully i wont lose to many this year.
