So, has anyone seen any info on a next generation AVX yet? Love my AVXs. Been playing them since their first limited release back in Nov. '17. Over two years now. Since two years is the normal Titleist cycle, I am expecting an update soon, but have not heard much at all.

I have enough of the present AVX model to get me through the winter (great winter ball I might add), but am considering an additional supply for Spring since there are some better deals on them available now. However, I don't want to stock up if a "New & Improved" version is slated for release in Feb or Mar.

Anyone know anything? Is the AVX staying in the lineup and/or maybe being renamed with a new ProV-type moniker? Could it be the new EXP? That certainly sounds possible after reading all the threads regarding the EXP. And by this point there would usually be some talk of the next generation AVX. But, frankly, all I've heard is speculation. Anyone?

Been using the AVX since it first came out with great success. Anxious to try the new improved on when it comes out. But winter is here in PA. Would love to have a test sleeve or two if possible.

I am guessing that the new AVX will be the EXP.

I have heard that the EXP was more in line to be a replacement for the middle price-range ball. I have not looked at the EXP up close but from the pictures it looks like it has conventional depth dimples. The AVX has much shallower dimples which leads to its lower ball flight. That would lead me to believe the EXP would not be the next AVX but maybe the next Tour Soft.

Been a fan of AVX too since I tried it before winter started.. has the upper hand on my Pro V1 in windy and wet conditions.

Will stay tuned in for the new ones, would love a box with the TT logo on.

I'm looking forward to the next iteration of the AVX. Hope it's not like the EXP-1 because I bought a dozen & didn't like them at all.

Titleist's third premium ball has not converted the PGA Tour players. Does anyone have statistical info on its sales success or lack thereof?

I keep going back and forth between the AVX and the Pro V1.
  9. Titelist just released a new version of the AVX, played it and thought it plays very well in windy South Florida. So it must be selling. Our course has some devoted AVX players. Always wondered why a Tour Pro would not put the AVX in play on windy links courses in the UK?
  10. I just wonder with the Pro V1 and the Pro V1X, what the need was for another premium ball in the market from the same company?

If there is a market, the vendors will come. Other OEMs market the balls based on driver swing speeds and have 4 lines of premium balls (just counting white options). The AVX is different enough that there is a niche for it. If the niche isn't big enough, then there won't be an updated version coming out. NXT Tour and NXT Tour S eventually morphed into just Tour Soft.
  12. i have been playing the pro v1 on fir greens and the pro vx on the soft ones most consistent balls i have ever played
  13. I love the AVX

I took the Titleist Golf Ball Experience yesterday at Ball Plant 3. I can tell you the Pro V1, Pro V1x and AVX are in full production and would guess a new release is coming in January or February.

Wow- the technology and processes of making the number one ball in golf is amazing not to mention the average years of experience for all the people involved is twenty. I can't imagine this happing in any other Manufacturer's plant. So proud to be playing a Titleist!

  15. I always believed that the Pro V 1 was a ball too advanced for my game. I’m 72 years old and a 20 handicapper. My neighbor convinced me to try a Pro V 1. WOW I can’t believe the improvement in my game. Drives and fairway woods are a minimum of 20 yards longer than my Volvic ball. Every shot is straighter. The “feel” of this ball is great off the face of the club. I am a true believer although it does hurt when I put one in the water.

Yea! It's finally here, whoopi! Been hoping for this. Now please include the new AVX in the Loyalty Program and I'll really be a happy camper. Please, please please?

Glad to hear the new AVX has enhanced green side spin. I'll pick up a dozen!

Here's something I'd like to get an answer to...

According to the Titleist website for the new AVX, it states:

"INCREASED SPIN + CONTROL The new, thinner urethane cover system gives you more precise control on scoring shots into the green."

The USGA Conforming ball list test states the new AVX spins LESS than the outgoing ball in their wedge testing.

    www.usga.org/.../gball_list.pdf

The old ball has "L - M" (Low Driver Spin/Mid Wedge Spin)
The new ball has "L - L" (Low Driver Spin/Low Wedge Spin)

How can it have increased spin on scoring shots, but spin less off wedges (scoring shots) when tested compared to the outgoing model?

    What am I missing?
  19. Played the New 2020 AVX yesterday, in Florida, in windy conditions. Can tell you it performs very well: good trajectory in the wind and seemed to be better on holding the green, especially downwind shots. Thought I might be getting some extra yardage from this new ball, about 4 to 5 extra. Seems to always be windy in Florida and this is a perfect ball for those conditions. I am 72 and play to an 8-9 handicap.

  21. Great question! Even the Tour Soft ball gets an "L-M" rating and it does not compare to the AVX. Confusing, but the AVX works for me.
  22. Oh no, they are trying to blind us with science.

Thanks for pointing out the inconsistency in their propaganda. When the first AVX came out I loved its extra length and found that they would spin well enough on full wedge shots.

Where it failed me after using it for a couple of months, is chipping around the green; the ball jumped of the club face and I kept running by holes by 5 to 10 feet.

I eventually went back to the Pro V1 and my short game came back.

Will be interesting to here others feedback.

I can only speculate about the spin on wedges full/partial. Maybe a more firm core with a softer cover so there is more "groove purchase" on partial shots and less on shots that experience a certain amount of compression due to club head speed. Maybe dimple patterns are different or cover weight produces a different amount of inertia based on time in the air.
  24. Wish someone from Titelist would comment on the USGA rating of the new AVX as "L-L"(Low Driver Spin/Low Wedge Spin).

Those "ratings" on the USGA list have never had any relationship to reality, as far as I can discern. No idea where they come up with the categories but just scroll through all the balls you're familiar with and on any given version of the list there will be a couple of nonsense ones. Then check again on a later update of the list and you'll find other oddities.

Pay no attention that category. It is meaningless in terms of actual ball performance.

I agree with Edward S above. I would like to hear a response from Titleist on the USGA rating of the "New" 2020 AVX ball. I am currently playing the first generation ball, but, before I purchase the the "New" version... Thank you Titleist.

You probably will not get any official response... what would they say except the USGA has made a mistake. Maybe it was a typo on their part or at best, a quick flawed test while testing a boat-load of other balls from all companies. This is the group that called PGA player's drivers conforming one week and non-conforming the next. Titleist spends months in testing at all levels before they release their products so if they say it spins more than the previous model, I believe them. I would suggest getting a sleeve of 3-balls and testing them yourself or better yet, take them to an indoor facility that has a TrackMan and hit the old and new with a wedge and see what the spin numbers are on the monitor. I certainly am not a golf ball engineer but i know the AVX has shallower dimples therefore a lower ball flight on full shots. Shorter shots would be less affected by the shallow dimples therefore clubface contact with the cover material would be the key factor for that spin on the ball. If you are already playing AVX, i would be surprised if you didn't like the new ones just as well, if not more.

Thanks Dale V, I appreciate your opinion. I like your suggestion of checking out the "old vs new" on TrackMan.

I tried the AVX for the last 2 rounds, I am very impressed. I have always played the ProV1, and I like the AVX better. Seems to hold its line better, lower spin on longer shots, which were noticeably longer, spin with wedges and chips was very good, and off the putter it feels fantastic to me. I just bought another dozen to keep playing with them. For now I am sold on them.
