Could someone please show me the visible differences in the markings that indicate what year the ball was made?  I'm guessing that there has to be something in the marking.

All of the balls with the A.I.M. line have been made in the past couple years.

  3. I believe the new ones don't have the little dot in the aim line.

i think two balls ago the prov'x said "prov 392" or provx 332, then the went to just prov

I looked over the ProV1x, and the 2011 seems to me to have a different font for ProV1x. The new font seems to be more boxy. The A.I.M. line also seems a bit thicker and unbroken, with no dots like the early A.I.M. line. There is a closeup picture on the promo page.  There is also a difference with the dimple pattern. It may be my imagination but the Titleist logo also seems a tiny bit smaller.

The dimple patterns on the two new balls are also quite different than previous years models.  The new Pro V1 has 352 dimples in 5 varying sizes, and the new Pro V1x has 328 dimples in 7 different sizes.  You can see the difference right away, also when the light hits the new ball just right, it might be an illusion, but the new balls appear "brighter" thoguh the paint is the same as previous years.

I was hoping that someone from Titleist would reply and show us the differences.  Maybe from the inception of the "ProV" line.  I hear you about the dimples, but I doubt that that is the distinguishing attribute.  One of you is probably right about the font or lettering.  I wrote to Titleist the year they put the dot and semi circle in.  I just don't trust some of these retailers trying to sell off unsold stock as new.  There should be some distinctive marking or some other visual that will leave no doubt when the ball was made.  I doubt that Titleist take back the unsold stock when the new ones come out and only have new balls on the shelf.  I may be picky, but one shouldn't be paying top dollar for old merchandise.  Besides, I want to try out the new balls.  I prefer the X's.

    Hi David,

The new Pro V1 and Pro V1x do have a new A.I.M Sidestamp along with new packaging. Here are some images of the new sidestamps:

Now you're talking!  That's what I was looking for.  I knew it wasn't just me thinking of that.  I was reading about the new balls.  I think I will stick with them.  I started playing golf in 1969 and played Club Specials...remember them?  As I got better, I had tried just about everything ball on the market.  I even played with some English balls when I was stationed in Puerto Rico.  They were crazy!  I always came back to Titleist.  They just have a feel to them.  They even feel great when you hit them out of bounds. ;-) or bounce them off some guy's condo.  Yeah, it makes you winch a bit when you think about the money you just wacked into the everglades, but they just feel so good when you hit them.

    Thank you Mike.

Can someone explain (in layman's terms) why 328 dimples will perform better than 384?

They don't necessarily perform better - just differently and are optimized for a particular golf ball.  Tune in at 3:30 EST to the webcast where R&D guru Bill Morgan discusses the new Pro V1 and Pro V1x golf balls.

  12. Yes the answer,I believe is with less dimples creates less spin thus more carry.

You should hit it high to achieve this result.

  13. Does anyone have pictures of the AIM Sidestamps for Pro V1s for each year starting at 2007? I know the new 2011 have a thicker line with arrows, and the 2009 had the arrow, then dot, then line. I just bought a bunch of brand new balls and can't tell what year they are (they are loose and not in original boxes). They are brand new and not refinished. Appreciate the help. I want to sell some of the balls but need to know what year they are. The Pro V1s I have look like this . Thanks. Dave H.
  14. This is from the top:  2011, 2009, 2007

  15. Thanks for the pictures. I had a sleeve of the 2011's which has just the line and arrows, but thicker and shorter line than 2007. The 2009's had the dot in between the line and arrow. Any idea if the 2008's are same sidestamp as 2007's and are the 2010's same as 2011's? I'm thinking the balls I got are 2010's...

I got this one!  The first thing that I noticed about the new 2011 pro v's is the type of font used.  My cousin is a web designer and he said it looks like the font called 'copperplate' but whatever it is certainly looks different than any other previous pro v's.

  17. Can someone from Team Titleist provide the info we are looking for? How can you distinguish PRO V1 sidestamps for each year starting in 2007. Each year has a little bit different sidestamp...The box of balls I bought has a shipping label with a December, 2009 date on it directly from Accushnett, but this does not mean the balls are 2009 (since the sidestamps do not have the dot in between the arrow and line). I think the balls are either 2008's or 2010's...just want to verify. Thanks for your help. Dave H.
