A friend of mine gave me a sleeve of the "New" Pro V1s and I was wondering if anybody who has played these have any thoughts compared to the "Old" Pro V1s.

I'm going to be honest, when I compare the "old" to the "new," I think I really prefer the "old" ball.  The new Pro V1 seems like a much harder ball with less feel.  I love the "old" because of the soft feel especially around the greens.  Where I was checking the ball almost immediately, I am now rolling it further with the "new" ball.  I'm not sure if anybody else has the same issue, if worse comes to worse I can change my approach to chipping but after becoming above average to excellent around the greens, I'm leaning more toward average at best.

    Any thoughts on the ball(s)?

I play the X and I haven't had that experience. I find the new ball to fly a little higher and spin a little more. I actually thought the feel on the putter was slightly 'softer'. I haven't felt or seen much difference in the chipping. My comments relate more towards off the tee and with the irons, but a difference in chipping and putting I haven't seen much difference. Love to hear other thoughts on the new balls.

I'm also a Pro V1x guy and had the chance to get a few early season rounds in lately (luckily down south and not here in New England - 34 degrees this morning) playing the new Pro V1x and had a similar experience to Chip.

I really like the flight of the new Pro V1x and found that it is helping me get the ball in better positions especially with my approaches from 150 yards and out. This ball has also really been a good performer for me off the tee so far as I kick off some of the winter rust. I'm seeing a little higher flight and this ball definitely holds its line even in wind.

Around the greens, still great feel and control. Feels great off the putter for me. All in all, I really like what I'm seeing out of the new ball.

    I really appreciate the feedback.

Maybe I need to continue to knock off the rust.  I'd like to put the blame on the ball and not on myself.  The greens so far this year have been very firm, and though I'm used to being able to check and release my pitches/chips haven't been able to do so.  I have dropped an old 1x and a new 1x and hit the same shot numerous times to find the the new 1x seems to roll a little more than the old.

It could be me sitting over the ball knowing its a new 1x and not trying to be so precise to make excuses.  We all know how if we don't like something about what's in our bag we can make excuses and talk ourselves out of things.

I'm going to continue to work with the new 1x and the old 1x to see if anything changes as the year progresses.

    Continued feedback is greatly appreciated.

I have yet to play the new Pro V1 models, and will keep hitting the "old" ball as long as I am hitting it straight and far.  I am sure I will hit the new models this summer, but for now I am sticking with old reliable.  Thanks for making the best ball in golf.

I like the new Pro V1's more than the old ones. I feel like they are a little straighter off the tee. I also changed up my swing a little, so that could be part of it too. I haven't been getting as much spin as last summer though. I don't know if it is because I'm a little rusty or if they just aren't made to spin as much as the old ones. I just took advantage of the buy 3 dozen, get 1 free. I went over to golfsmith and they arranged the four dozen with the numbers that I wanted.

Is anyone seeing a difference in distance, as far as off the tee is concerned.  I've still got 2 dozen of the old 1x, but I am excited to try the new style.

    Thanks

Ryan, I agree with you. I play the X and found it to be hard. I was hoping that the pro v was going to be similar to the 2009 X. I intend to play Monday and experiment with the two pro v's. I also hope that as the warm weather sets in they become softer. May be wishful thinking.

Pros and cons with the new ball...
I agree if feels hard compared to the old ball, but it's spinning the same off of chips and half shots for me. The new ball is longer off the tee and seems to have a more piercing flight. The new ball is also much more durable.
I like the feel of the old ball, but the pros outweigh the cons IMO.
