    hey fellow TTers,

This is my third season back at playing regularly after leaving the game for at least ten years.  When I started playing again three summers ago, my number one goal was to break 80, as I used to all those years ago.  But ten years away from the game takes its toll on your game, especially the short game.

So I have been plugging away, practicing as much as possible, playing at least once a week, and this past Friday I finally broke 80 - shot a 79 (using a new ProV1 and Vokey Wedges) at one of NYC's courses, La Tourette (if you're ever around here, try it out, very nice course).

The scorecard is here - my Buddy kept it on his GolfLogix app - golflogix.com/ScoreCardEmail.aspx

Now onto the next goal - break 75

    Cheers,

    Jason

Good job Jason. I have that same app but it drains the whole battery on my phone after 10 holes. Does the same thing happen to your friend? Mark

    Hey Mark,

Thanks man!  I play with a couple of guys that use that app and it seems to be OK for the entire round.  Maybe get your battery checked.  I could never bother with that on the course, I just keep my score and stats the old fashioned way, scorecard and pencil.

    Good on ya, Jason

Don't let your expectations soar, you'll be disappointed. Expectations just add pressure, and pressure is bad.

I had been shooting mid 70's from the middle tees, so I moved back a tee, expecting to jump back up into the 80's, first round from the yellow 75, I could see the light, the next round back up into the 80's and been there for awhile. I allowed that 75 to put the pressure on.

Just take it easy, relax, that round is done and over, what happens next is what happens.......I know, its impossible to put that round out of your head.

    Hi Quintin,

Thanks for the very solid advice - I agree with what you are saying.

I did play the very next day and shot 82, with better putting it would have been in the 70s (I took 40 putts!).

I feel OK to shoot in the low 80s for now, with the occasional great round in the high 70s - hopefully with more short game practice I can get into the 70s consistently by the end of the season.

    Thanks again bro!

Thanks Owen!  You'll get it for sure.  Several weeks ago I had a putt on 18 at my local course for a 79 and I 3 putted it, but I ended up getting the 79 on a much tougher course and it feels that much more gratifying!

Congrats man! I know what it is like, I did not pick up a club for six years. I had some serious back issues, my son was playing a ton of baseball, was traveling a lot for work, yada yada yada. Mostly it was the back issue. My son graduated from college and finished playing ball, I got a new job assignment that required much less travel and most of all I finally got some help for my back. I started playing again last summer, I played about a dozen rounds and broke 80 a few times. This summer I have 26 rounds under my belt and have my handicap down to a 5 now. I have a goal to break par one round this summer. Anyway, congrats, keep it up!! I am sure it is good to be playing again, I know it is for me!

congrats to you Cliff for being back at the game - and shooting some damn good scores!!  That's awesome.

Thanks for the encouraging words - hope you break par this season!

    JPHB,

Congratulations on your 79.  82 next round with 40 putts, shows you exactly what you need to improve.  Best advice, spend an hour or 2 daily, working on your putting and chipping, get that number down to 30 putts for 18 holes, and you'll be at par.

Thanks Seth - I agree - my putting has been improving and hopefully I'll get into 70s again very soon.
