 Were you looking for the SM4 or the TVD (just without customization)?  There are a few differences between our in-line SM4 54* and our TVD 54*.  One is that the grooves are bigger on the SM4 allowing for more spin, while the impact areas have been heat treated for more groove durability.  There is also a slightly larger teardrop profile in the SM4, as well as a few options of bounces and grinds.  The TVD offers one of Vokey's most popular grinds, the M grind, and only comes in one bounce option.

I have the TVD 52, 56, and 60 and they are the best feeling wedges that I have ever had!

for me TVD's rule - I play 54 and 58 and they are pretty much my favorite clubs in the bag, and the best clubs I have ever owned

I'm strongly looking at the TVD 58* versus the SM4 58*, and since I'm a lefty, I'm limited to the 58.09*. I'm looking for good versatility - which one should I get? Since the SM4s are $130 now, a TVD is only $20 more and I'm definitely considering it!

You may get a little more versatility out of the TVD 58* since it has an M grind.  The M grind is considered one of Vokey's most versatile grinds and allows for a player to have the face angle in a couple different positions, without directly affecting the bounce.  The SM4 58.09 has an S grind to allow for a little more heel relief and is a mid bounce, which will play well in many different turf conditions.  Either choice would work well, but to get a little more versatility you may want to consider the TVD.

As long as you feel comfortable out of bunkers with that wedge, then you are in great shape.  You are correct to think of low bounce for those tighter turf conditions, just make sure that the bounce also fits your swing style (slider or digger).  You can learn more about proper Wedge Fittings (finding out your playing style) by clicking on the link below.

My wedge setup between 2007 thru early 2009 was Vokey Tour Chrome 258-12 and an Alien 64-05 (my other wedges were Golfsmith P2 PW and 51) but the shortcoming was long or mid length bunker shots in soft sand. I got pretty adept at working the 58-12 within 50 yards of the pin. I constructed a set of Snake Eyes irons (Q3I 5-SW and 600W 60/10 lob wedge; I might add that I developed a tremendous short game with the PW and SW). that I used between early 2009 thru March 2011 (been using Eye 2 or Titleist DCI 981 since then). My wedge line-up thru early 2010 was CG15 DSG 58 and 64; the 58 was pretty deadly but found out its limitation was tight lies (when I started rotating golf courses in San Diego) so I tossed in a SM60-04 (its limitation was digging a hole on some of the better manicured courses; it was fabulous at a certain exec course where even being slightly right or left of the middle of the fairway = uneven lie). This led to replacing the DSG wedges with Vokey SM2 60-07 and 64-07. When I upgraded irons early last year, I got a Spin-Milled c-c 54-11 and bent it to 55-12 (which is what my Snake Eyes SW was) and had a pretty deadly combination with it and the other two (but rarely used the 64; the best shot with the 60-07 was holing out a 20 yard over the bunker shot for birdie on Riverwalk Friars #8). I acquired the 62-07 last summer because I wanted to upgrade to "USGA legal" grooves on the lob wedges and make room for more clubs on the top end. Found it very versatile vs the 60-07 and 64-07. The 50-08 came about because I wanted a wedge I could use with both iron sets (could take out the GW in the DCI set and the PW in the Eye 2 set) and it was a bit of a return to "old school" golf. I bent it to 51-09 since I previously had a "comfort zone" with my Golfsmith P2 gap wedge in 2007 and it also works very well for long bunker shots in soft sand. It also pretty near repeated the 60-07 shot I previously mention (the pin was back more and I stopped 2' from hole). I just recently got the 58-04 since I revisited the "certain exec course" that I hadn't played in over a year (I had to de-loft my 62 and do digging shots near a few of the greens; the greens were like concrete). I put it through a few paces in my practice (hitting the severe downhill lie shot, hard bunker shots, soft bunker shots, pitching and chipping from grassy and tight lies) and it did pretty well at Riverwalk last week (this is one of the elite courses in SD); I had nobody behind me and already was on the green on #9 so I tossed a ball in the middle of a greenside bunker with soft sand and popped the ball out with the 58. My approach shot on #8 landed in the "Bunker From Hell" and I hit my 62-07 5 feet from the pin. My other crowning shot a month ago was hitting the 62 from 50 yards to a pin with about 15 feet of real estate between it and the front of the green; the ball stopped 6 inches from the pin.

An update on my wedge setup.....

Traded the 58-04 and 62-07 for an SM4 60-10 in May 2012 (bent it to 59*).   Awesome wedge - it has also been my primary greenside bunker club since then.  It also has saved quite a few pars and did a couple hole out birdies.  Absolutely deadly.

Recently acquired an SM4 54-11.   Yet another awesome wedge.  Great around the greens.

Also put the 64-07 back in the bag.

Nowadays, I would classify my style as "shot maker".  Since having the 60-10 in the bag, I've changed my style of bunker play in the hard and wet bunkers (I do a digging style in these cases vice an open face blast). 

I just ordered a TVD-M 56 and a TVD-M 60. I wanted to order new SM4s with DG Spinner shafts, so I figured, why not and ordered these. I am getting 10,000 rpm of back spin with my current 60.04 SM4 with a full shot distance of 115 yards. I need a bit more spin out of these. I do have a tendency to have a heavy/fat mishit.

I was using a personalized TVD 54 w KBS Hi rev shaft and have just recently purchased a 54 and 58 SM4 with DG Spinner 

and am definitely getting more spin with the SM4's....Not noticing much difference on the full shots out of fairway as far as bite on

the greens but out of the rough they seem to be better but the biggest difference is on shots around the greens....much easier 

to hit chips and pitches that take a bounce and then hit the brakes....FYI- using pro V1's w TVD's and SM4s
