First, I’m a definite advocate of being properly fit for clubs. But I bought 915F 5w with a Diamana S+ blue shaft off the rack a few years ago that I’m still astonished by how well it performs for me. Just an absolute fairway finder that I hit well.

Several years ago, I had a 910H 19* with an Ilima(?) shaft. Another club that just fit my swing so well. When the 913H clubs were released, I figured I’d trade it in and upgrade. Huge mistake!

What club(s) have you bought off the rack that just fit so well? Is it still in your bag, and if not, was the replacement an improvement?

I'm lucky enough to be standard length and lie on clubs, so a simple fitting or try out is all I need.

The last off the rack club was a TSi2 3 wood. And its sickkkkkkkkkk

At 71 and LH, only ever fitted to one rack item (915 D2) and it was no more than a sales job gone wrong by a large box retailer. Made it easy to hold the sign that I gained 20 yards with a 917 fitted.

You can go into a casino with a quarter and walk out a millionaire but the odds are against you. Lots of people play off the rack but probably not playing to their full potential. That doesn’t mean they are not enjoying the game. I choose not to take the risk in something as important as the clubs I play so often so fitting is for me. In my younger days I was an off the rack guy so I get why many choose to go that route.

There's something to be said for both off the rack, and club fitting. I've always been a feel player. I've got a lousy multi plane swing, but it works for me.I have some still photos taken awhile ago that show, and I'm pretty good at impact and just before and after but those are the only good attributes of my golf swing.. I've never been fitted for clubs. As an example,I picked up an old TM V steel 16.5 4 wood with an Graphite Design YS7x shaft about 20 years ago off a the rack. It's still in the bag. It's my go to club..tee fairway, wherever.

On the other hand, I'm getting older. I played blades for years. Currently I'm playing png S-55 Irons, which at the time (2015 i think), was the smallest iron png offered.I know at some point,I'm going to need an iron that's more forgiving .I may get fitted for my next set of irons because everyone tells me numbers don't lie, but the way an iron looks at address and feels on contact still count for something, regardless of what the numbers say.

Do not buy from big box retailers. When I first started playing golf, as most beginners did/do, I bought off the rack and did not help my game. Guess the reason I tried all the different brands. My first fitting was with Wilson Staff and then found out about Titleist Thursdays and went from there. Was not that pleased with the Wilson clubs. Found later at my Titleist fitting that I was 4* off in my lie. Made a big different in scoring and accuracy. Been with Titleist since.

I’ve never been fitted, and usually buy used. Recently bought my driver, wood, and wedges new, but the TS series, not TSi so still off the rack.

I bought an 816H1 27* hybrid with an 85g Aldila Rogue at standard length in 2019. Did change the grip to Winn Excel RF Oversize. I have the Surefit set at A2 and it has been a solid go-to club. Even before that, 913H with 70g Diamana (24 and 27 lofts) standard length set to A2 worked. The 816H1 gets better distance.

    I still have that 27.

The other club I love to death is a 910F 21* with a Kai'ili 75. I told the repair guy to make the length 41" and put on my favorite grip (Winn Excel RF Oversize).

As long as they have Senior flex shafts I can do Fairway woods off the rack after I have demo'd them outdoors. Everything else from Driver to the Putter, FITTED!

I can not say I have bought off the rack since my parents bought me clubs as a kid or teenager playing high school golf in the late 70's. As an adult I won't buy off the rack because my swing & address goes back & forth from standard lie to 2 degrees up & 1/2" longer depending on the year. I also have my swing checked at least every 18 months so I know if I need to tweak my clubs and or swing.

I’ve bought plenty of ‘off-the-rack’ clubs that worked well for me. While I am a fan of club fitting, I know that getting fitted is not an option for everyone. It’s also important to realize that many of us mid- to high-handicappers have widely varying swings. Club fitters often fit to your ‘best’ swing, which I seem tor

It’s also important to realize that many of us mid- to high-handicappers have widely varying swings. Club fitters often fit to your ‘best’ swing, which I seem to encounter about twice per round! Club fitting can’t fix that!!
  14. Titleist 818H 21* hybrid. It's probably my favorite club to hit and the only one I didn't get fit for.

T200 Irons. Fitting said I needed the AMT Black Shafts in R. Most places have S flex shafts. Actually found them in a local store.
