You did not mention if you were a senior. Height and length of arms does not tell me much. If you are far enough along in you lessons to be striking the ball fairly well and you feel that you are ready to INVEST in a good set of clubs, I highly recommend to INVEST in a fitting. There are a lot of great lightweight steel shaft that work as well. I am 75 and play steel shafts. A good fitter will be able to put you in a good set matching the correct shaft with the correct heads based on data collected during the fitting.

You might try PGA Superstore or Golf Galaxy in your area or ask the head pro at the course where you are taking lessons who he might recommend. Make sure they are a certified fitter with years of experience. If you are not interested in making that investment.

Ask your instructor what he would recommend or find a good used set to start. Some golf shops deal in used clubs and you can pick up a good used set for a good deal.

A number of options. The bottom line is, how much do you want to invest as a beginner. Golf is an investment in time and money. Wishing you the very best.

Before you buy anything, you should try some demos. I may be able to help. I work in a pro shop at a high-end daily fee club fairly close by to Needwood. We have multiple demo clubs and rental sets, many with graphite shafts. Some are even Titleist! I might be able to find you some feasible options to test out. There would be no cost to you. Doug is offering a great starting point Often going to a big box store it is likely that you may be taken to the corner with the color coordinated sets they sell to every person born with XX chromosomes from age 18 to 81. Does not account for size, mobility, or athleticism.
Based on your experience I trust Doug will recommend options for your next step. It might just getting a 7 iron (often available as a single iron from fitting sets) or also adding a putter and wedge. Buying a driver may be too early for your progress. It is not just a big iron. Your coach will also help you step up your equipment.

Getting fit for your set of clubs is important and if your budget will allow, go see a fitter and get clubs that match your physical stats and your swing characteristics. If you decide to wait until you have made more progress with your instructor, getting a used set of Titleist AP1 or T300 from somewhere like 2ndswing.com. They will have a good selection of graphite to include some sets made up for ladies, with shorter length irons. Good luck and hope to see you out on the course some day.

I highly recommend getting fit for your irons, but if you're willing to make the investment, the T300's are great game improvement irons. I play men's T300's with regular flex graphite shafts (I'm 5'11") and they have really improved my game over the last 2 seasons.
