Been a Titleist loyalist/fan boy since 2012. Entered into our world with the 712 AP2s, moved into the 714 AP2 (magnificent iron, little bit of me wishes I still had them), skipped the 716s (didn’t look as good as the 714s). Made a huge mistake in 2018 with AP3s (what was I thinking). Original T100, great fitting by Titleist HQ, so glad to get away from AP3, but……cheers then, no mention T100S were on the horizon. Quick change saw me into the 2019 T100S, cosmetically it was an easy transition into my current bats the beautiful 2021 T100S, that make me feel like hitting the 714 AP2s. Now……I have a 4 iron in the 2021 T200, I’m a 1.9 index, but I’m not getting any younger at 52 this summer. So looking for something more forgiving.6 I was so hoping to see a non back plated T200 for 2023, the plastic back in the 21 is shocking, it may be the 23 back plate in the T200 is metal?. Even if it is, it doesn’t look pure in my opinion. From a looks perspective, I’m sticking with my 21 T100S or regrettably It may be time to explore the hollowed bodied smooth looking Taylor Mades, that don’t have back plates and look like blades.

That's the beauty of the free market. We aren't tied to club contracts and manufacturers. You are free to buy what ever you choose. The P770s are very good irons, they have hollow bodies and foam inside to soften the sound and the feel. The MP 225 have a layer of copper under to improve softness and feel. Titleist has decided to go a different route in eliminating weight on the back to place more on the bottom to increase launch and forgiveness. The i230 has gone a similar route but also added an insert behind it to soften the feel, but adding weight higher up the club face. These clubs are actually competing with the T100/T100s. The T200 sits in the middle of the 770 and the 790. Small and compact without the massive loft jacking and distance of the 790, Rogue Pro, and 225. It's on its own between 2 segments. It's not going to be for everyone, Titleist knows this.

Based on their reasoning backed by significant R&D testing, I would think it's fair to say the 2023 T200 will continue to utilize the polymer back plate. Though online presence may seem like it is universally hated by all, the youtubers make up a small percentage of people, and the majority of people are not bothered by this otherwise Titleist would have gone a different route. They know their sales numbers and get feedback, to come out with T200 that are very similar means that there was no reason to change what they developed. They also have many people getting big bucks to make these decisions.

P770, i230, MP 225 are not going to give you significant improvement over the T100s. I would just continue to use those until you are ready to make the jump to a P790, JPX 923, i525. Maybe by then the 2025 T200 replacement will be what you desire.
