Currently looking to throw a wood or hybrid into my bag. I have a driver and the next club down is a 4 iron. What’s gonna be a good club to run between for now? Eventually I will buy another wood or hybrid to further fill the gap, but as of now it’s gonna have to fill a big role.

Knowing what your distance gaps are between iron and driver is a starting point. What I your preferred distance to cover in that gap. What type of shot do you expect to use it for? Deep rough or fairway? Alternative to driver on shorter holes?

If your iron goes 190 and driver goes 250 and a 3 wood goes 240, would that work or would a 5 wood, 3 hybrid or 2 driver iron going 215-220 be a better option? You should work with a pro/fitter that can help you answer the questions and help you select the best option for your game. Get a 5 wood. Or a 16* 4 wood.
  4. A lot will depend on what you want the club to do

If it is just to achieve distance then a 3 wood could be a good option and can also be used on the tee

If it is to hit specific targets then maybe a 4 hybrid

Hate to give you the stock answer to do a fitting, but in this case I think that makes a lot of sense. Try some 3 wood options and note the carry distance, then try some options that gap from the 3 wood to your 4-iron distance. Then buy one of those clubs now. You can accomplish that in a fairway wood/hybrid fitting.

I have a 21 degree in my bag. I really like it, its versatile. Hybrids are a great club to add to the bag

My irons start with a five and I fill in with a 21* and 17* hybrid, plus a 15.75* fairway and 10.75* driver. Love the fairway on short par fours and dog leg lefts. My fitter helped with this decision. Am a young senior at 76, and this works for me. Love the versatility of the hybrids, they can get you out of trouble from most anywhere on the course, even round the green.

I went to a fitter and decided to go with a club that would help me extend past my 4 iron. I ended up going with a TSR3 hybrid. It already saved me yesterday playing out of the rough at my 4 iron distance. Ended up pin high just left of the green with a solid hit. It was definitely helpful speaking with a fitter and getting what I needed .

For me it is a choice of fw 16,5 with a 21 fw. I prefer fw over hybrid. Or if you want only one fw a good option is the 18 fw

A 7 wood is one step above a 4 iron. My bag is 14 clubs as shown with two 56 loft wedge. Driver-3W-7W-23H-27H, 6-P plus two 56 loft (56-12D and 58-04T bent strong). No rule says you have to have 48-52-56-60 wedges. If I want to play a light weight carry bag, could play driver-7W-5H, 6-P, 56 and 64 plus putter. Driver-5W and 4-P plus wedges is just fine too.
