My recent fitting was a Titleist-TT event near TPC Twin Cities. 18 of us were on hand as Josh T introduced the irons, what the goal was, and how they achieved it through R&D. More information on the exact improvements will be a podcast soon The T150 is a little more than a T100 engineered to be 2 degrees stronger. A little more head size. The T200 has a different chassis to eliminate the external dampener. The T350 is, yes, the game improvement line, but now shares the chassis of the T200. They could have named it the T250. The message of the day was height, ball speed, and feel. There is a point when there is a drop off in height and ball speed at the next iron. The object is not to have a set worthy a wall mounting but to mix in clubs to keep the same window for a 4 iron and a 7 iron. So each will equally hold a green. Brandon Wu and Sean O’Hare did an online course demo of why they have their mix of clubs. …With the age and size difference, the bags do differ. Ben Taylor then demonstrated how the stock 4 irons gained height and ball speed from T100 through U505. There were 3 fitters doing 1 hour fittings for 18 TT and host club members. As well as a ball fitting to do while waiting. We were in 2 groups so while 9 were getting fitted, the other got to play the private course. For me, to keep it short, I ended up with 7-P in T200 and 6 T350. I use a 48 Vokey, and even the 6 iron was a stretch, but my next hybrid was a l15 yards longer than the 7 iron and the 6 off of a tee is a par 3 club. I’ve an AP1 guy forever. Joey from TPI snuck in a T200 and it gave the best numbers. I just thought it was a shaft change. Dropping a 1/4 on the shaft length cured my big miss off the heel. As expected, it is the red graphite shaft. The actual ball fitting with a Trackman was a surprise to several. When they can see the change in ball flight and get closer to ideal spin numbers, not every one was playing the best choice. X was and still is the best option for me. Didn’t get any samples to try. Sigh… I don’t know the price or when I will get them. So like many others, I have to wait.
