Playing on a cold day in the North of England at my home course, what every golfer wishes and dreams for and can only describe as the greatest feeling in golf happened to me.
Let me give you a little back story to the event.
On Friday evening I was marking my sleeve of Pro V1s with my usual markings when my 9 year old niece asked why? Following my explanation she asked if I'd put her initial on the ball as well as my own. Without hesitation I agreed and said to her that when I played the in the competition the following day , I'd get a HIO with that very ball.
As I approached the tee box of the 152 yard, par 3 9th hole at my local course, I informed my playing partners of the story from the night before and proceeded to grab the newly marked ball with my initial and that of my niece.
I grabbed my 9 iron and let's just say the golfing gods smiled down on me. As soon as the ball left the club face, my playing partners and I said it had a chance. Within seconds the ball landed pin high about 3 1/2ft right of the pin and spun left into the hole.
My playing partners and I erupted and couldn't believe what had just happened.
What a feeling!!!!
The ball is safely stored away while I decide on how and what to mount it on.
Golf truly is the most frustrating, rewarding and enjoyable sport in the world.
