April 5, 2023 started out as any other ordinary day. Around lunch time I texted me wife asking if she would like to go walking with me at the course while I played an evening 9. She decided to walk with me. I made an evening tee time at me local club called Keith Hills for 5:03pm. I approached hole 8 which was a 135 year par 3 hole. I had always known if I were ever to his a hole in one it would be this hole. I had played this hole countless times in the past for the past eight years.
I grabbed a 7 iron which is my club from 135 out. I teed the ball and swung and hit the ball. As I was watching it fly towards the hole, I noticed it was going to land a bit left of the pin which it did. (I was thinking, whew, it's at least on the green.) All of a sudden, the ball starts rolling right, towards the pin. (I was thinking, wow, pretty good shot, it's going to be close. I'll tap it in for birdie.) Suddenly, the ball disappears...... My first thought was that there was no way the ball rolled off the back of the green, which it had done 100% of the time in my previous golf outings for the past 34 years. My wife starts screaming, IT WENT IN, IT WENT IN. I was thinking, not uh, not uh. She kept yelling. Immediately, I ran as fast as I could towards the green with adrenaline pumping. I get to the green and look at the pin and in the cup and there was my ball!!
The best part was that I had other golfers on the green beside my hole and they witnessed the hole in one as well. I have since retired that ball.
What did I get on the final hole? On hole 9? A double. My whole body was still shaking from the excitement of the previous hole and I was completely ok with ending on a double.
If I never get another hole in one that's completely ok. It was well worth the wait.
