My name is Fernando Amorim and I’m an 18 handicap golfer; fortunate to have some scratch golfer friends that love dragging me around for monthly rounds throughout Georgia and beyond.
On May 17th I went to visit a supplier and settle some issues we recently had. Nothing that pleasurable. The meeting started a bit awkward and to break the ice I noticed a plaque in the wall with a golf ball and quickly asked about it. Turns out it was my good friend and business associate Neal Combs’s hole in one. All there neat in a plaque with the score card and all!
The meeting ended well, and while I did get a good old swift kick in the shin; when the meeting broke, I asked if he meant it; to which he swiftly reply, “heck, I’ll forget it in about an hour…” and then I will never forget; he calmly reach’s underneath his desk and pulls out a brand new box of Prov1s! It wasn’t until later, that I realized it had the logo of my good friends and suppliers House of Raeford.
10 days later, on May 27th; playing with my good friend Rob Robinson at Lake Spivey; we reached hole #11 after and average front 9 for me. I pulled out my HORF logo Prov1, guinea pig #3.
There were a couple grounds crew working with sound headphones right in the front bunker. We waited a few moments and finally whistled at them to move to the side.
The blue tees were reading 169 with a swirling wind that at times seem to come pretty strong on your face. Just as I reached for my bag, a strong gust once again blew hard on our faces. Rob’s reader gave us 170 playing 175.
I pulled my 3 wood and figured a soft swing. I only hit my 3 about 200 and seem to have success easing a swing into 180 often. With the wind; I figured it would all even out.
The whole seem to play slightly uphill.
I hit the ball well, perhaps to solid of a hit. It had decent loft, and I remember only being moderately please; that is until Rob starts screaming in my ears, “Get in the hole!!” By time I focused the ball, I saw the first bounce (skid ball mark about 15 feet from the flag); and instantly thought ‘too much club.’ Before that thought sank, I saw the quick and shorter second bounce, followed by a squared hit on the flag pole, enough to shake it wobbling; launching the ball up in the air.
Before that ball landed (and flight was only about 2-3 feet) I remember two very distinct things; one, the sound of the ball clanking the flag that finally traveled to us; and two my friend Rob screaming obscenities in languages I didn’t know he spoke. I couldn’t believe it.
We both drove up to the green, half in shock; half still screaming, as the grounds crewman who were not watching, wanted to know what really happened.
We started the video when we pulled up to the green. You will hear me thanking my good friend Neal a couple of times.
My golf partner and friend Rob helped and explained me about the card. He said I need to put a circle or a triangle. I choose a triangle. Was so nervous that I broke the led on the first pencil, had to get another one.
Thanks again to my friend Rob for dragging me everywhere and pushing my game; and to my friend Neal, for the box of Prov1s!!
Just realized that I cannot upload the video. Let me know if there is and email to send it to.
My next humble goal, play a solid round in the 70’s!
Regards,
Fernando
