I started playing this game at the age of 25. I always thought that golf was an old man’s game until I was exposed to it. I was a young man in the US Air Force and my mentor introduced me to the game. I was instantly hooked. As I learned the game I quickly realized how hard this game is. How difficult it is to manage the ups and downs of having horrible scoring rounds, yet managing to get in a couple of shots a round that gave me hope that I could play this game at a level I could enjoy. Setting goals to minimize mistakes and optimize my game was the way to combat my limitations. No double bogeys, no 3 putts and no bogeys on par fives are common goals golfers set for themselves. Making a hole in one was never a goal I set for myself, only a wish of doing something truly special. Some may say it’s by pure luck and some may say we make our own luck; I say thank you to my mentor, my golf teachers and my family for helping me play the game I truly love. They get to enjoy this fortunate achievement with me!
