I was hoping someone knew what the shaft diameter of the Scotty Cameron Dual Balance putters were?  I have been told by Titleist the butt sizes are not the same size as the regular Scotty Cameron's (and therefore all other putters).  I am going to install a dual balance grip on a normal width putter shaft but wanted to know how much to build it up instead of trying to guess.

  2. I've struggled with same issue.  Instead of swapping shaft, here's a trick:

    1. Strip grip off current shaft

    2. Screw/ glue bolt into end of shaft

    3. Wrap lead tape around end of bolt

    4. Put new grip on shaft.

  3. Nick it is not only larger but also thicker so it will not give at all when installing a grip.  I have not had any problems installing other grips though...just do not add too much tape!

As far as the weight in the butt section of the grip, there is a trend amongst Tour Pros to leave the weight out of the putter grip and just install the grip. I did this for my Futura X DB and it feel much better...of course this is all personal preference.

    Good Luck, Chris

    Chris,

When you took the weight out did you cut down the shaft at all? You gave me an interesting thought. I liked the Golo 5 in a 34" except that it felt lighter than normal blade putters I have used in the past. I ended up going with the 38" dual balance.

Chris thanks for the reply.  I agree the weight is different for each person, not sure why Scotty Cameron doesn't let you choose your own weight or specs.  I used the grip it to make a dual balance Futura X5r.  I liked the look of that head a little better than the normal X5 and I also didn't want the extra 50g in the head of the putter that dual balances have so I ordered the heavy (15g weights in the head) X5r at 35.5" (max length they offer but thankfully I normally use a 33" putter so the 35.5" still gives me plenty of extra length at the butt) and made my own custom dual balance.  If I was any taller this would not have been possible.

Everything came from Titliest the other week and so I was able to install the dual balance grip without much issue.  I looked at an actual dual balance putter and measured the difference between the shafts compared to the normal putter shaft at the bottom of the grip and it was ~1/8" different so I built up the normal putter shaft with around 7 or 8 pieces of grip tape.  I made sure to use a lot of solvent which helped because I probably only needed 4-5 extra pieces of grip tape to adjust for the difference in shafts.

Before ordering everything I tested out different weights on a 33" X5r on the butt end of the grip and settled on 75g.  Luckily I had a tour lock 75g weight from an old putter so I didn't have to buy one.  I like using tour lock weights because if I ever want to remove the weight or change I don't have to remove the grip.

I learned from another forum that an easy way to test out adding weight to clubs/putters/grips was to use nickels as they are exactly 5g each.  Just taped them together and put it on the butt of the grip.  Then try try out different weights until you find your best results.  Much cheaper than buying multiple tour lock weights.  Plus I have access to a SAM puttlab which makes finding the best weight for me even easier.
