I've struggled with my current putter, not a Scotty, ever since I bought it. I needed something to hit so I found the first blade that I sort of liked. Since then, I've discovered it is too light for me and I need something better.

I went to my local shop yesterday and tried several putters but the two that stuck out were the GoLo3 and the Newport 2 or 2.5. I don't have easy access to a putting fitting center.

I've always had a blade putter and I love how they look. But the GoLo 3 felt solid. The only Newport they had was the regular Newport and I need the alignment line.

Between the 2, I like the Newport a bit better because I like the blade style over a mallet. But I'm concerned about ordering a putter without seeing if it feels right and fits my stroke. Should I go for the GoLo which had consistent results or go for the putter I prefer based on looks?

  2. Brandon A, I think you should buy the one that performs the best. Looks does not put the ball in the hole. Keep us posted on your choice. steve b

My suggestion would be to find a shop that has a wider selection. If you can find a Cameron fitter or a demo day, that would be optimal. I would also suggest being patient because for most of us, Camerons are expensive and you'll probably have to lice with your purchase for a long time, so do it right the first time.

For years, I used a Crenshaw blade putter. I would try other brands- Odysy, Swoosh and would go back to the Crenshaw because the others felt like a piece of iron pipe with a grip on it, no touch at all. So, when I had the chance to try a Scotty, I tried a bunch and the Newport 2.5 had the touch I was looking for as well as the craftsmanship Scotty's are famous for. I've stuck with this putter for a long time, average 1.68 putts per hole and would never trade it away.

Good luck to you in your search.

Try out a few on the practice green to get a feel for it . I just bought a Futura X5 and love the feel of it. I am able to get within 3 feet of the hole or less from 30-40 feet away. I have improved my distance putting immensely this season.

  5. Brandon, I would also look at what type of stroke you have since the Golo 3 requires a lot of Toe Flow while the Newport 2 has some Toe Flow...overall both great putters however it is personal preference...the bottomline is your confidence...so it sounds like you will need to find a fitting center and travel there otherwise you will be questioning your confidence in a putter going forward regardless of the type.  JAT

You should get fit or get both!

Is all seriousness I'd go with whatever one you're more confident in. Line up 10 6 foot putts and see which one gets the ball in the hole more often.

    Hey Brandon,

Like everyone else, i would definitely try to find a place that has all of the putters available.  If you go to http://www.titleist.com/events/ and select your state, you should see the next time a demo will be in your area..  Usually the Titleist demo will have the Scotty's there to try out...   I went to one earlier this year just to try the GoLo putter and like you I fell in love with the 3.  I currently have a Newport and a Napa..   May have to get a 3rd :).

I would take your time and not rush.  Make sure you get the right putter that's for you and most importantly you feel comfortable and confidence with it...   Buying a Scotty is a big investment but it sure pays off..

      Best of luck!

    Thanks for the input!

I was able to overcome my desire for looks and hit 10-20 putts with each putter at my local store and wound up going with a GOLO 3. It had the best feel of all of the putters and I was making putts left and right. Then I took it to my home course and spent a good 30 minutes getting a feel for it and was very happy with my decision.

Now to work on getting a feel for different greens, nothing can fix that other than practice :)

    Brandon A,

I think the answer to your question is both. You need a putter that performs well, but you also need a putter that inspires confidence when you look down at it. I own three Scotty putters and all are different. I use my Newport 2 most often because that that is the style of putter that I used when I started playing the game. However, I also have a GoLo 5 and a Select 1.5. I prefer one of those on slow greens because I have a tendency to leave putts short. I agree that you need to find a shop that has a better selection. You should also try testing them on a real putting surface. Good luck in your selection. You can't go wrong with a Scotty Cameron putter.
