    Grindelwald,

I had my Newport 2.6 Scotty now for one season but it starts loosing the black colour on the edges, where the clubhead rubs in the cover and where I hit the ball.

Is there something you can do to protect the putter to not lose its black colour?

  2. Christian, I try to wipe down the putter frequently with the oil cloth...that seems to help a lot!

Chris, consider it a badge of honor that your putter has gotten so much play. Unlike the carbon steel putters, your putter won't rust once the finish starts to wear. I'd play it a few more years, and if the wear is really bugging you, send it to the restoration service at www.scottycameron.com. They do a great job in making it look new. No finish will last forever, and if you're playing a lot, wear is natural.

Yeah, same experience here.  Love the rustic look. I bought my Newport 2 Notchback Select when they first came out and the black started going away around the edges after about six months and continues to do so.  I know I can send it back to the shop for a restoration but I like the mucked up look.  I also have black tennis tape on my putter grip so my putter looks pretty ratty and I love it.  Goes well with my Tour Only Rainbow Colored floating CTs Scott Cameron head cover.  I love this putter and the only change I have made is change the weights from a 10 to a 15 and put on midsize grips.  She is not the prettiest, but she sure can putt well, and that is all that matters to me.

Great post. I wish I had the problem of playing too much!

Completely agree and you'll get an opportunity to add some extra goodies if you sent it back e.g. Custom Shop stamps, headcover, paintwork and grips.

The oil cloth is also a must. Just a quick wipe over after each round. I've been using a Super Rat for around three years solid through winter and summer and no sign of any wear and tear.
