Stuck weight: how to remove?

    Hi all,

    Sorry if this topic has been already discussed here by I couldn't find it. Here's the thing: I got my SC California Hollywood fitted last Friday and the clubfitter advised - amongst many other things - to add weight to the clubhead. Problem is he couldn't remove one of them (heel side of the putter). He tried very hard for 20 minutes with rhe appropriate tool first using his only strength, then WD40+strength and finally heatgun+strength... nothing worked.

    Is there any way this thing could be removed? Weights are obviously the original ones.

    Any help would be really appreciated, thanks!

    I've heard that pouring a little boiling water on the weight, or submerging just the heel of the putter with the weight into boiling water will break that glue free. Haven't tried it myself, but have read quite a few threads on TCC of people having some success with that.

    Boiling water does work, I also have for years used a product called PB Blaster for frozen bolts on my various jeeps and boats, it might be worthwhile to try it. The main issue with heating the head on a flowneck like a Hollywood is just make sure you don't end up accidentally loosening or pulling the shaft out of the head when heating it enough to free the stuck weight.

    Thanks Marc! Indeed it worked absolutely great: I left the heel (only) into boiling water for 1 minute and then the weight came out almost without an effort! Thanks again for your kind help guys!

    Glad it worked out for you. Realize this is after the fact, but I had some luck in the past using a steam vaporizer to loosen up stuck weights.

    Just tried your boiling water trick and it worked like a charm. Thanks for the tip. I didn't want to have to spend $50 on the Cameron socket wrench tool.

    I have never had an issue with getting out the weights. I have the scotty wrench, but makes sense. Same principal we use when removing cleats from shoes that have been left in too long. (We put shoes in a pan of water with about an eighth of an inch of water, up to the soles, and let it set for about twenty minutes. They come out with a regular wrench. The claw is not good for the shoes and not always effective). Water loosens the particles of dirt and sand that have accumulated over a period of time.
