I have a 2012 Select (Black Mist) Newport 2 and a 2014 Select Newport 2. The serials are located in the same place on the shaft, but the 2012 model looks like a dot-peen marking (many dots make the pattern of the numbers) and the 2014 model looks like the serial is laser etched. Was there a manufacturing change during this time to explain the difference?

  2. Here is a brief history background....serial numbers didn't start until 2007, The only putters prior to that I am aware of that had "serial #'s" were custom ordered Mil-Spec's on the back/side part of the neck

My best guess is that they used a dot-peen marking until they got a new machine that did laser etching (too many counterfeit clubs)...also I believe Vokey uses the same machine now at Wedge Works.

Always keep in mind though, that it is easy to change a shaft and I have seen many putters that have inaccurate serial numbers or should not have serial numbers (ie... putters from 1990's).

I hope this helps a little!
    Chris
