Ridiculous I know! BUT, YOU ALL KNOW. . . DON'T YOU! LOL!
Yesterday was beyond AMAZING! I had my first putter fitting ever for a new Scotty Cameron. Mr. Jim Pooler who's fitted me for all my new clubs Driver - Putter is the extraordinary Titleist fitter at the Santa Ana Roger Dunn. I booked a Putter fitting with him and he spent well over an hour with me as l said goodbye and retired my 14 year old "ZB."
It was a strange feeling to let it go. Like saying goodbye to an odd sort of way. Jim had me put 30 -40 balls with my old putter different distances from different positions to see my set up and my stroke. He asked a lot of questions. A lot. Starting with, "What do you like about your old putter?" "What don't you like?"This was the beginning of the end of my "ZB."
Jim Pooler pulled out 5 Scotty Cameron models all 33" as I'm 5'6 and began his magic. One by one I putted dozens of balls with each, eliminating one by one as he broke the putter selection down by fit, feel and lastly ( very last ) appeal visually to my eye. Results and feel were priorities and primary goals matched to my gate and the arc of my putting stroke.
He left me for alone putting for roughly 5 minutes and came back with a long plastic bag which I could see contained a putter. Who can miss that glorious unmistakable red Scotty Cameron Putter Grip!
Jim pulled a brand new Scotty Cameron out of the bag and removed the Red & Silver stock head cover to reveal a putter I'd never seen, looked at or considered. He handed me the putter and said, "this has what I believe, all the elements that will fit you & your style....give it a go."
Putt after putt, short, long and mid distances, down hill, up hill, 20 feet to 3 feet the ball felt like butter, as it rolled the ball like none other I had experienced....EVER! The feel and appeal to my eye as I looked down and through the line was unlike any Scotty I'd previously experienced in my fitting. The Scotty Cameron "NotchBack"
Lastly he adjusted the the lie. SO IMPORTANT! One degree at a time to finally 2 degrees flat. DONE! This was it and sealed the deal! Perfection NAILED.
My new "NotchBack" Scotty Cameron was coming home with me! The perfect match! My recommendation...RUN DON'T WALK to your nearest Titleist fitter if your looking for a new putter...it will be one of the best investments you'll make in your game. IMO.
Hope I can now mark my ball without falling down looking at my new NotchBack! LOL. It's so gorgeous and feeling quite like the "ManChild" and memories of being a child at Christmas taking my favorite toy to bed with me!
