  1. I have Newport 2, which I love. Towards the end of our season in the NC mountains, our native Poa Annua greens get fast as lightning and my putter is just too heavy. I went to 5 gram weights but am wondering how it would affect the putter — stability, twisting, etc. — if I removed both weights? Look forward to hearing from the experts. Thanks. Ralph

It's 100% up to you. So much of putting has to do with what you feel is comfortable, go ahead and try it out without the weights and see how you like it. The putter head should still be balanced without the 5g weights. I'm still using a Studio Stainless Newport 2 from 2003 and the head only weighs 330g. It works for me, but but buddy who has a Futura thinks it's too light. Different strokes for different folks!
  3. hubert109,
Thanks for your reply. I was mainly interested in whether it would retain its balance and you answered my question. Best regards,
    Ralph
  4. I agree ...use as you like it...I have not heard ever from Scotty that it matters however I always try to use 5gr weights in all my putters.
  5. I was recently with Scotty's crew and we discussed no using weights...they commented that the best way to avoid getting junk in the cavities is put a wine cork in it and cut it off cleanly. There was one player on tour in recent years that did this. Otherwise it should not affect performance according to them.
