Putters are often selected by looks. Some prefer the blade look of a Newport-2, some prefer the larger headed mallet designs.

But putters also have different balance points. If you balance a blade putter on your finger, the toe end will hang down, and many mallets will remain flat heel to toe. Some will hang in between. The putting stroke is not exactly like a straight pendulum stroke. There is some arc to it. The balance point is designed to work with varying amounts of arc.

The only piece of equipment you use more for shots than a putter is the ball. Getting lessons on putting and working with that pro to get the proper length to see the line best and to make a consistent stroke. That will guide you to the selection type of putter that will work with your stroke. That's the fastest way to get to an average of 2 putts or less per hole.

I've tried a number of putters, but I always come back to a Scotty for the feel. For me, mallets with some toe hang work best. With the advice of my local Cameron Showcase Partner for the choices best suited.
