I have a 2017 (I think) Newport 2.7. Face balanced. I've tried a variety of other Scottys, but I always come back to this one. I cut a 35" putter down to 33" and added the appropriate weight to the head, with a Super Stroke Flatso grip. I'm toying with adding the 50 gram weight to the grip. There is a lot of information out there about adding weight to the grip in a counterbalance fashion on longer putters, where the counter weight in the grip is above your hands. Is there any advantage to adding that weight to a 33" putter where my hands are at the top/middle of the grip, basically putting the additional weight in my hands and not above them? I may gain some stability on short putts, maybe not. I may lose touch on longer putts, maybe not. I would love to hear everyone's thoughts on this.

Might be a Newport 2.5. Checked previous models in that era and did not think there was a 2.7 and it did not show one. Great model. Might be putting too much weight on the upper end of the putter. The normal weights on the bottom is 20grams for a 33" for a total of 40grams. Talk to a fitter and get their opinion. Getting fit for a putter is my suggestion in the beginning is the right direction to take. I never buy a club with talking to my fitter. But that is just me.
  3. Wow, lots of variables in this thread....essentially when you cut a putter down two inches that alot of swing weight points lost, but adding sole weights with more weights help get you back to normal. I have used back end weights in the grip before with Super Stroke and they work great...would not hesitate to go that direction however you are back to losing swing weight points ago. MY preference is to keep the weight in the sole and use a standard range of 65-90 grams in the grip end total.

    Good Luck! Chris

I have the Scotty Cameron 2.7 face balanced blade putter. They were made in 2011, when I bought it brand new. Great putter…but I now use a Scotty face balanced mallet.

Mine is 33” and I put heavier weights in it when I used to use it.
  5. Mine is 35inch but putting heavier weights in

i always seem to be changing my grips ect but back to the scotty grip now

I also have a rescued Studio Select 2.7 with what is called a single bend shaft. It was a bargain barrel putter that hadn't seen a cover in quite a while and was cut very short. It has been reset to 34.5" and has heavier weights plus lead tape on the bottom of the flange. I'm considering replacing the grip (currently a red cord grip) with leather so that it has a strong 'tack', but I'm very conscious of changing swingweight. Of course, I could always put more tape of the bottom!

I also have some different SC minimal toe hang, mallet style putters with center shaft, bend shaft, etc., but none of these seems to perform as the 2.7 does, so they are in the time-out corner for now!
