"The Augusta National Women's Amateur tournament kicks off on Wednesday with a field of 72 competing to play on the most famous course in golf."

This was a quote from an article in today's golf news. Do you think August Nat'l is the most famous course in golf?

I think it is the most famous golf course in America.
But if you are talking about the world then I believe it is St. Andrews.

Most famous, no. I would say that title would go to St Andrew's. I would go with is probably to the most desirable to play.
  5. I agree with what seems to be the consensus on here, St. Andrews being the most famous course in golf on a world scale.

Theres just something about those late afternoons when the shadows run long and feeling the presence of the ghosts of golf's past that will always keep Augusta National at the top of my "must play" bucket list.

As it turns out, only the finals are being played at Augusta National.

Interesting topic. I would say that I don't really know what is the most famous golf course in the world. My only thought upon whether the old course is more "famous" than Augusta Natl. would be that we get to see Augusta every year for a week. We only see St. Andrews when it takes it turn in the Open rotation. So a lot more eyes happen to fall on Augusta. Very interesting. I don't know whats more famous. All i know is they are both pretty sweet!

The field of 72 was cut to 30 so only 30 women get one competitive round at AN. I agree with the consensus.

Your comment that “only 30 women get one competitive round at AN” is correct. To be clear all 72 contestants played a practice round on Friday at AN.

There really was some great golf. I enjoyed watching the coverage on Saturday. Great job to everyone who made this event happen!
  12. Fun to watch Kupcho and Fassi compete against and with each other, great to see them cheering each other on.

As far as "most famous course," maybe. Would think it would be after St. Andrews and before Pebble Beach, but not sure how to measure it.

I'd go with St. Andrews over Augusta National. One of the best parts of the telecast was they didn't train the cameras on the players for closeups as much as they do for the Masters. I had no idea of how the National is laid out until I won the lottery last years. With more panned shots, you can really see the terrain and the slope as a result. The cherry on top was the 2 future LPGA players battling down to the last 3 holes for supremacy. Great competition at any level is great competition.

That was a fantastic back 9. She really turned it around after dealing with a migraine that impaired her vision on the front 9.

I don't think ANGC is the most famous in golf. I agree St. Andrews is more famous globally, and for the non-golfer, I would say TPC Sawgrass is as "famous" as Augusta. That said, in golfing circles, Augusta is certainly one of the most coveted and arguably the best course in golf.

I am quite happy that the Women's amateur turned out the way it did. As a supporter of Women's golf and a former HS Golf Coach I think ANGC has a lot to do with how the game progresses and dictates the flavor of golf to some extent. The back 9 at the Amateur was a wonderful display of golf (despite some of the ridiculous comments on social media), and ultimately great for the game.

I hope they continue to become more inclusive, if only for one week.

I agree with some of the others that St. Andrews is probably the most famous course in the world, Augusta is a good bet for the US though, probably close with Pebble Beach.

Even if it was only the final round, at least Augusta opened it's doors and fairways to a field of outstanding female golfers, it's about time. I hope they can continue to expand their horizons and help grow the game for everyone.

I was only planning to watch a couple of holes, but the final round with all the give and take on the front side was really compelling. Then the hybrid shot on 13 hooked me - I sat down and watched until the end. When Jennifer lost the lead on 8, she came off the green, and looked like she was in pain, but the announcers interpreted it as an emotional down and thought that she was perhaps overly emotional and commented on that hole and again later when she was smiling. It wasn't until the end of the round during Jennifer's interview that they realized that she had had a painful migraine hit on 7-8. Congratulations to both Jennifer and Maria for a really good tournament and great golf.
Instead of going immediately to the LPGA, both deferred to play in this tournament and graduate from college first. Kudos on all fronts!

It was fantastic, I am very happy that Augusta opened their gates to the woman's amateur championship.
Is it too early to dream of a LPGA masters tournament?

Cathi, you are exactly correct. We finished out round and were having a libation at the 19th hole and a sandwich when getting ready to leave we saw the same as you did. We commented how the course seemed to be set up so that the girls could be hitting the same fairway shots we are used to the men hitting, from the same approximate locations. Then came 13, but better yet, the shot on 15 from the top of the hill. Sat back down and took it all in until the finish and the presentation afterward also. Great competition.
