Does anyone else tee up their ball right next to the tee marker or am I a part of the minority on this?

I seem to get it as close to the marker as possible and I have no idea why

Depends if I am trying to create an angle that fits my eye to shape something into the fairway. My go-to fairway finder is a baby fade, so most of the time I'll set up on the right side of the box, not necessarily that close to the marker though.

Depending on the fairway layout, I usually tee up close to the left marker, taking my stance outside the marker. If my straight ball or baby draw is not being consistent that day, or the hole layout dictates a fade, I will typically set up with my ball teed up a foot off the right side marker. I rarely EVER tee up in the middle of the tee box unless I am using an iron off the tee. I think I need to be close to one or the other of the markers for visual reference and comfort over the ball with my driver.

I do it more so par threes than anyway else. I feel that it allows my to focus on finishing my swing down the target line as I can use this as an alignment aid.

I'm right center or right marker depending on the hole layout, my driver is usually straight or cutty. Occasionally I can get a baby draw going but its not enough to ever go to the left side of center. On Par 3's I do whatever gives me the biggest margin for error so i can land near the pin, on the green, or on the fringe away from trouble.

Like most people here, i let the hole shape dictate which side i tee up on. Sometimes i even tee up barely inside the left marker where i am standing outside the box. Have been questioned a few times but remind them its legal to stand outside the box, just have to have the ball within the box.

I agree with these posts. It depends on what side of the fairway I need to get to for a better angle to the Green!!

I will let the hole or hazard dictate where I tee it up. This is a good question. Something we can all learn from by sharing our answers.

Where I play most, every single par 4 is a dogleg moving one way or the other. Thus, I'll always go to one side of the tee, creating the angle to shape the shot to fit the hole. I might go 2'-3' away from the tee marker though, not right up next to it.

I can’t say if you’re the minority or not. My tee placement is determined by the shot shape that the conditions and course call for.

Like others, it all depends on the hole. At my home club, I can think of two holes where I generally stand outside of the tee markers to hit the tee ball.

As above, hole layout, shot shape, etc all play a part in where I tee up the ball.

I agree with most depends on lay of hole and shape I need

I look for the best and most level area in the tee box to hit from. I'm not a big shot shaper so it's more important for me to feel comfortable under foot than what side I'm on.
  15. Wow, I must be in the minority. Since I'm not all that long, my basic shot is pretty straight (with a slight baby draw), and since I can't draw or fade a shot on demand, the shape of the hole is not all that important. To me, the flatness of my stance on the tee box is more important. The courses I play at are not Augusta-like. The tee boxes tend to slope some or are kind of chewed up (especially the par 3s), so having as flat and stable stance as I can find is where I put the peg. To me there's nothing worse than getting ready to swing and finding that your toes on one foot are in some kind of a divot which of course puts my brain in a place that does not produce a good swing or shot. Fairways and greens.

  16. I tee it up right next to the left marker, because I play a draw.
  17. I let the line I want to take off the tee dictate where I tee up the ball. One thing I’ve never been comfortable with I standing outside the tee box with the tee marker between my feet and the ball. Just too much of a distraction.

My brother does that but stands outside the tee markers...all I can think is if he mishits bad enough his shaft is going to splinter...but it never does. To me it seems crazy but seems to work out most times for him.
