I have to ride as well. Two knee surgeries from years of basketball. I try to get out and walk to my next shot any chance I get. Speeds the round up as well.

I walk, thats what I like best. I'll ride if the situation calls for it, but i prefer to walk. I like the exercise and its just enjoyable to get on the ground and take it all in.
  5. Walk mainly! A lot of the guys and girls I play with use push carts though.

Walk and carry as often as possible, even at 51 years old.

I walk - unless I'm playing with Millennial-aged guys. I switched from slow pitch softball at 59 to take up something with a longer season and better/easier exercise. Fortunately, I'm still able to walk 18 10 years later. Most muni courses I just spend less timing standing on the tee box by walking with no detriment to pace of play.

Walk when I can, but if I'm with a group of friends that want or need to take carts I'll hop on so I don't hold anyone up. Last couple rounds I carried since it was a quick 9 after work, but I'll usually use a push cart to save my energy through the round.

...in addition, a battery powered cart is a real nice thing to have on golf walks. I still carry sometimes, but I have to make the bag real light and I may even leave a few clubs off the bag. The cool mornings in the spring and the late fall is usually a fun and a good time to do it in.

Jeff M., sorry about that. I didn't mean to reply to your post. I thought I was just posting a regular follow up to my original post. ...my bad.

My preference is to walk, especially old-style courses where tees and greens are near each-other. Many modern courses are now designed where you must ride and I'm okay with that, occasionally, especially to experience some of these scenic gems (Quivira, Pechanga, Trump LA, The Grand, PGA West, La Cantera, Cabo Del Sol). That said, nothing like walking alone on a quiet evening on my home course, or doing the annual Bandon trip where I walk the four courses in whatever elements mother nature sends our way. Bandon, Sand Valley, Kiawah, Pebble, Pinehurst, Torrey, St. Andrews, some of my most memorable golf was played while walking those courses.

Generally, I like to walk, although most resort courses are so spread apart between tees and greens and, also some courses that are very hilly are tough to walk so I like riding when on those courses- many times, a cart is included in the greens fee for those courses anyway.

Love walking the flat courses or at least within reason. On weather with excessive heat, I tend to use a riding cart, conversely, in the cold weather, walking keeps me warm and that would be my choice.

Have pulmonary issues and cannot last walking on the course. Still have my clicgear and my Titleist lightweight carry bag. Has not been that many years ago and was a passion with me to walk. My Dr told me at my age (73 in 30 days) to use a riding cart and be happy I can still hit the ball around the course. He said that golf should be fun for us amateurs not a struggle. He use to be a scratch plus handicapper and can not longer play.
  15. I walk all of the time, with a push cart. I'm from the UK where buggies aren't as common as in the states.

    Plus, I like the exercise.
  16. I walk carry/push. Only ever been lucky enough to ride in a buggy once.

Like most, situational........I walk as much as I can, with the bag on an electric trolley. Get too hot and humid, getting uncomfortable, or the rest of the group is riding, then I'll ride too. Probably wouldn't do as well as Dave or those down South playing in the heat and humidity this time of year with the walking. Love to try it though on a regular basis or at least be a "Snowbird" and play all year by flying South with the birds for the winter

Walk most of the time, have a few playing partners that prefer I ride as they claim a walker slows them down???
I think it's because I don't walk around looking for their ball(s) in the tall grass or near out of bounds I walk to my ball.. LOL

I mostly ride, because my playing partners ride, I want to pick up walking again after the back surgery later this year, I feel it gives a better flow to my game and round, and also help with the ever-growing waistline

Eric, out of curiosity, where do you caddie if you don't mind me asking?
  24. I like to walk and have a push cart, however a lot of the courses around me are riding only.
