In some ways this whole pandemic really made me re-think golf, my attitude and everything else. Like everyone else nothing was open. So for those 8-10 weeks or whatever it was, it was just my mat, golf net and a tiny par 3 in my backyard to stay in shape. But not being out there was tough so started thinking what can I do differently on the course, what needs to change. 2 things came to mind, my attitude and how appreciative I was to be able to play this game.

Attitude, I've always had a little bit of a poor attitude when playing bad and that needed to change pronto. I've been saying this for years and somehow it was still there. Who cares what you shoot or what your hcp is. That doesn't define you. Your personality and how you handle yourself on the course does. It's only game PERIOD. Bad shots will happen. Period. Hit your shot, SMILE and move on.

Appreciation. I thought a lot about this while not being able to play. I really started to think how damn lucky I was to be able to play this game. Golf has brought me to some amazing places around the world but most importantly I've met a lot of amazing people and being a part of Team Titleist has A LOT to do with this so very thankful for this community.

So when golf finally opened up, I snagged the 3rd tee time on the first day at my home course. The group allowed me to tee off first. Teed it up and BOOM, sliced it. Picked up my tee, smiled and off we went. Sure felt good to be back.

Cheers to a fun year! Peace and love to all.

Thank God for Golf. It's the one thing that my wife and I do that can be deemed as normal during these times. My wife has underlying health issues and we must be careful. Golf affords us the ability to interact with people and still stay safe.

Very well said Speedy! Hit them long and straight. Or short and to the right. Either way, enjoy yourself out their on the course.

Great post Speedy! I'm hope that everyone that had a forced layoff is as excited and grateful to be back on the course as you are. I also hope they keep smiling regardless of how well they are playing.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts Speedy. "Hit your shot, smile, and move on" is a great way to play this crazy game.

The game of golf sure is fickle, and it will humble you really quick. I used to be the very negative guy when I wasn't playing well. Now, I'm just grateful I'm able to golf and be outdoors to spend time with family. Hit em good out there!

Great humble post! It’s great to be back to golf and I have found myself feeling very appreciative of the game. I’ve come out of the break shooting some lights out rounds. Including my best ever round, a 2 over 74! It’s amazing how changing your mental game can affect your play in a positive way.

  11. Great post Speedy. I have not had the chance to get out yet since things have opened. This has given me a lot of time to watch a lot of TV. I have seen many commercials for the Shriners and St. Jude. These always get me thinking about how lucky I am to be able to play this great game. So when I finally get back to it I will keep the pictures of these brave kids just trying to walk and live with their conditions whenever I miss a short putt or land in a bunker and remember just how lucky I really am.

    Fairways and greens to all.
