Created specifically to offer the same sleek, classic shapes preferred by touring professionals, each model in the new Special Select line has many features that were influenced by the best players on Tour - one of those being the design of the iconic cherry bombs.

Watching the Tour on TV, we see players and caddies constantly wiping down their putters to make sure there is no water, sand or other elements that could potentially interfere with the stroke of the putter. As a result, the red paint of the cherry bombs on their putters began to wear down over time (spoiler: see an example in the video below). This "lifesaver shape" of the cherry bombs, as Scotty puts it, influenced the design of the cherry bombs on the new Special Select line.

Hear from Scotty Cameron himself and check out the video below to learn more.

Thanks Emily for the video. I am super pleased with my Special Select Newport 2, best looking and feeling Scotty of my 27 Scotty collection.

Great looking series of putters, wish I was a good enough putter to game one.

Hmmm. Let's look at the value of a SC. I resisted for a long time for the same reason. But the mass and balance from just toying with them in my local box store just seemed like there was something different with them. Many people buy putters based on eye appeal and don't know the difference from face balanced to full toe balance. Even Tiger is using the same putter for over 20 years, because it was fit for him. There are putter fitting studios using cameras and sensors to determine your natural stroke. Once you get the specs, you can then purchase a putter that meets those. It's an investment that can last 20 years to life. What other club will hold up that long? When you look at it that way, a putter is so much cheaper than a driver that should be replaced/refitted every 5 years.

If you regularly 3+ putt greens, then you should find a putting studio, as fewer putts per round will be the easiest way to lower your score.

....My wife bought that line, and even though my handicap stinks, I average less than 34 putts per round with my Newport-3 (now Del Mar). My best investment in golf equipment.

Nice... Made famous by Tiger Woods.... LoL!
  7. From cherry bomb to lifesaver...interesting. I could listen to Scotty talk for hours...from thinking about handles like hammers to those SoCal iconic logos such as peace surfer, hot head Harry, and Jackpot Johnny he just gets it!

That’s a really cool story. I love seeing how designs come out of a story and have meaning rather than just doing it to change things up for no reason. Thanks for sharing!
