I was given the #1 gift in golf which I am very thankful for, but santa, my wife in this case, was tricked by a local sporting goods store. She bought a box of the current Prov1 with the black box and these were sold for 47.99. There are hundreds of store selling them for 39.99!

Inside the box was a dozen previous version prov1s. This is unacceptable in my opinion. They are selling a false product. We went to the store to return them for the correct balls. They claimed to be "out of stock" of the current ball.

I wish there was a way to report this retailer or something. They are selling old golf balls for new golf ball price. I sure my santa was not the only person who had this happen to her at this particular store. Id love to swap mine out, but I know thats probably gonna be possible...Id at least like to see this store stop doing this. It does not seem fair to the consumer... wrong price.. wrong balls.

I would go get a refund and then purchase somewhere else at the reduced price ($39.99) or wait for the new models to hit stores. They are not out yet so we don't even know what the boxes will look like. Only a few early release "white boxes" are out there which are not for purchase.

The only off course stores that I would deal with are Dick's/Golf Galaxy, PGA Tour Superstore, TGW, Carl's Golfland. and Golf Locker.com. I'm sure that there are some others but I have never had a problem with these 5. I would contact Titleist with the name of the store, as I'm sure that Titleist would not look favorably on this retailers actions.

Eric, I've had this happen to me as well. I'll bet it's the same retailer in Sparkle City (SM)?

You've convinced me to order only from my club's pro shop or from Titleist directly. Sorry to hear what happened, but thank you for the lesson.

This retailer should be called out! Unacceptable

    Sorry to hear about that.
I understand its a small amount, but it hurts to know that a retailer would do a shameless effort for it. Let alone, it was Santa.

How about speaking with the store owner/mgr. and ask for a raincheck so when the new ball comes in stock you could pick up the proper ball?

Wait a minute. Let me get this straight. The box for which she paid $47.99 is the current packaging that houses the present version (2019-20 with the gray alignment arrows outlined in thin black), but when you opened the box you found the previous version 2018 ball (with solid black alignment arrows)? Am I interpreting your post correctly? If so, that would be illegal! On the otherhand, if I am misreading your message and what was in the box she bought is the actual present version, just like the box indicates, then that's a different story. However, they should be on sale for $39.99, just like everywhere else.

Can you return them for a full refund, then drive down the street to another golf store and repurchase at the $39.99 price? I'd do it just on principle. I'd also let the store manager (from the store where they charged you 47.99) know it was a bogus ploy on their part, just for my own satisfaction. I wouldn't want them to think they put one over on me.

As far as I know, the new 2021 ball is not on the shelves yet, so I'm guessing you weren't expecting that one. Were you? When it does get released, I think the price will be $47.99 again. But, I'm making assumptions. I don't know that to surely be the case.

Exactly, It is the black box with the gold stripe. Inside the box is 4 sleeves of gold box Prov1. I could get a refund i guess and purchase them, and i will try but the point is this store has done it before and will continue to do it.

I dont think they are trying to scam anyone as much as they are just uneducated on their product. They keep the empty boxes on the shelves and then go back at get the balls after you buy them.

This store is the only sporting goods shop in town. As I've said, when I buy, i chose to a pro shop or a reputable dealer, but this was a gift from my wife who was just trying to be a good gift giver.

The store is "Dunhams" in St. Marys Pennsylvania

Why don't you post the name of the store that's doing this?
  12. That is a shame a company would do that. Still a great ball, but the extra money they charge is upsetting.

Lol i appreciate all the advice but you gotta remember this was my wife that bought me a gift. I know where to and what to look for when buying golf goods. The problem is this retailer and they should be held accountable

OEM golf companies all have price restrictions. The box store's headquarters aren't local, but the pro shop is locally owned. 100% of the profit is spent here from a pro shop. Makes sense to support local small businesses since they all sell at the same price. My fitter/coach works from a private club, and I get the member price on equipment without being a member but by being loyal to the shop.

Keep it mind it's sadly a thing for consumers to swap sleeves out of boxes in retail shops. Just like checking for broken eggs at the grocery store, check your dozens before you buy them if possible.

I have heard about the ball swapping. At the store, the clerk usually opens the box to make sure you did not do that, never checked eggs before, thanks Allan!

No store is OBLIGATED to sell for a certain price. There are golf shops here that sell ProV1's for $52 a dozen (plus tax). If they charged more, then the price is the price. Go get your money back and buy somewhere else. Pretty simple.

I think you're missing the point here. They are putting golf balls from 2016 into a box thats from 2020 and selling them. Thats my problem.

If i didnt want to pay the price i would get different golf balls.

my hope was that some one would say hey wow thats a problem we gotta educate our retailers better...
