I just wanted to share that my wife and I welcomed our first son into the world. A few weeks earlier than expected, my head is still spinning with all of the changes (that also may be the lack of sleep).

While the golf game has been, at least temporarily, put on pause, I wanted to see if other dads had advice on how they balanced life and new fatherhood with golf and other hobbies.

Can’t wait for the day I can buy him his set of clubs (Titleist of course)

Congrats! I too have recently become a dad with a son (back in March). It has been a whirlwind to say the least. Expect to wake up in the middle of the night 99% of nights over the next 6-8 months. Hopefully you will get paternity leave, I was able to get 8 weeks! While during that time I was waiting for my T100 iron set to arrive, it definitely sped up the process haha.

It is definitely more difficult to get out. I used to be able to get out once a week for the range and or a round. But now it has been impossible with a combination of being too tired, or guilty of leaving my wife with him for over 5 straight hours! I think I've been able to get 3 rounds in the last 4 months with like 3-4 range sessions.

Obviously everyone's experiences will vary. I will say though, with my son waking up early almost every morning, and me having ESPN+, I have been able to watch TONS of more PGA Tour this year lol

As soon as he could stand up, my oldest kid begun to pick up my clubs and hit golf balls in the house. Once he dented and put holes in the drywall, the wife told me to take him to the range. That was the beginning of the kids all playing golf with dad.
  4. Congratulations! A delicate balance for sure, but it can be done. I was so blown away with the experience I was not concerned about golf for at least the first 6 months. After my daughter started to sleep through the night, and my wife and I were not exhausted, and developed a fairly regular schedule, I started to go to the range a bit and thought about playing.
We were able to work out some time for each of us to indulge in some alone time and this is when I got to play a few rounds. I usually went as early as I could and get back to give my spouse a break. Good luck!

Congrats to both of you!! I know it’s hard to imagine at this point, but ENJOY THE JOURNEY - it goes fast!! You may ask, ‘enjoy sleepless nights and dirty diapers?’ But, you’ll quickly miss those days. Golf APPROPRIATELY goes on the back burner and when you do get the opportunity, focus not on score, but on relaxation and recharge!! Ultimately, your little ones will join you on the course and that will be one of the great joys of your life. My son started coming to the course with me when he was just barely walking and he actually bested me when he was about 12! It was one of the proudest days of my life. He’s now 30 and a better than scratch player. We still play together about once every couple of weeks and I cherish every shot. There’s nothing like walking the course with your children.

Congratulations to both of you. Nothing like a newborn to keep you on your toes.

If you are a fan of FJ shoes, they do have them for the little ones in blue/white saddles. The are called FJ FirstJoys. I got a pair for my neighbors when their son was born a few months ago. They run around $22. Also, come in all white and and pink/white if you happen to have a little girl. Just throwing it out. =)

Congrats to the new Dad and Mom. It will cut into playing time for sure, not to mention $$$. When baby needs new shoes and daddy wants a new club, guess who is getting what? Anyway, best wishes and good health.

Congratulations to the new parents. It’s a balance for sure. Playing was tough but I could get an hour here and there a couple times a week where I would chip and putt. If you have a par 3 course close to you, that is an option as well. Not quite the same but at least you get to hit some shots and still try to make a score keeping some of those feels active.

Playing 9 worked for me too.

Congratulations! Why wait to get clubs? I bought my new grand daughter a plastics set to get in the "swing" early and she is only 19 months. I purchased when she was born... LOL

Congrats on the new bundle of joy. It will be hard. I paused golf for a few years. I have my girls now taking golf lessons. I love that they enjoy golf.

Congratulations! My wife and and I are expecting our 2nd child in the next few weeks. I played a lot when the pandemic hit, but it his year it has slowed down. I found getting out on a Saturday or Sunday during nap time for 9 holes to be the sweet spot.

Congrats! I was blessed to have three boys with two eventually playing college golf. I definitley sacrificed some of my own game to get them involved in golf. I can tell you it was worth it and I played a lot of 9 hole rounds either early morning or in the evening during those years.
